Cubase 4 Studio
I am using Cubase 4 Studio with a Emu 0404 card.. The recording mixer is a Behringer 2442 FX Pro. I use the sub outs to go to the R/L inputs on the Emu card, that way you can group whatever you want to send to Cubase. Then I can either run the R/L outs to the Behinger Eurorack for playback, or I run back into the 2442 in 2 channels set to the main outputs which go to the Behringer self powered monitors. This setup works well for me as I am usually recording keyboards with the drums tracks at one take, then add the guitar, then vocals, etc. I have no problem with gain or latency, my computer is a pentium D945 Dual core with 4 GB DDR2 RAM, the emu acts as your sound card.. I did get some latency when using USB with the Tascam 424, I think that is the number I haven't used it in a while, but if you go with firewire you should be OK..

I went minimal and it works wonders.
I use Garageband (I use Mac) and just got a firewire TC Electronic Konnekt 6 audio interface. Just run a Fireware cable between the Macbook and the Konnekt 6, an USB cable between the M50 and the laptop and 1/4" cables between the M50 and the interface. The TC Electronic came with Cubase 4 LE, installed it, but I've found Garageband easier to start with.

USB on the M50 doesn't carry Audio: you need (also) to connect your Left/Mono output (1/4" plug) of the M50 to the Line In (1/8" plug) of your laptop.korman709 wrote:i connect it via the usb connection from my laptop to the m50...there is midi function but can't hear the m50 as other vst instr.

I have no idea how you're getting any sound at all, but there's nothing wrong with Audacity. It will work just fine (although it'll be somewhat of a lightweight program in terms of features, compared to other options you have). If the sound is coming into Audacity too quietly, the problem is either with the volume you've chosen to record at in Audacity, the volume of the sound coming out of your M50, or the differences in audio level between what your sound card expects and what the M50 is putting out.

You're not making sense. Be precise here, and be detailed; the more you say, the more we can help.
What exact cable did you connect, and from what to what?
What do you mean by 'Audacity records via the microphone' and 'the sound is too low'? Do you have some kind of microphone hooked up to your computer (part of your webcam, maybe) and Audacity is recording from that?

Audacity puts mic in on always on the new track even if you haven't even connected a mic to your computer.
I think audacity sucks real bad. Try using reaper which is free to try and to use, but if you're doing some serious recording and producing you should pay for it.

Audacity and Reaper are two different classes of program; one is a DAW and one is just an audio recorder/editor.
Regardless of where Audacity assigns the 'Mic In' (which presumably can be switched to another source), that still wouldn't explain the problems the original poster is having. Hopefully he'll post again with more details and we can help him get his problem solved.

I've recently discovered Ardour, which seems great for tracking although has no MIDI support currently.
It is free/donation based.
Harrison also have their own adapted version for under $100, which has their customised mix engine built into it.
Oh, and it is only available for Linux an PC I think. Quite good though!
