Hello there,
very glad to be part of this very informative forum.
I have one nagging question as a possible future SP170 owner:
which 2 grand pianos were sampled on the Korg SP170, meaning
Piano 1: Warm and Elegant grand piano and
Piano 2: Clear and bright grand piano.
Many thanks for checking this out, I have a real hard time finding the info on the internet. I also mailed a couple of Korg dealers a few days back, still waiting for their reply.
I am also very curious which grand piano samples are used on other Korg keyboards, for instance the SP-250, LP-350, M1 and others.
again, thanks
Which pianos are sampled on Korg?

Hi:
Directly from the recording engineer who take the stock piano samples for the Korg Trinity, Mr. Mauricio Guerrero, he says that the base piano sound of this board is a Steinway Grand.
The new piano on the Triton Studio is a Böesendorfer.
The others... no idea.
Regards.
F.
PD: It will be interesting to know the piano who was sampled for the M1's base piano sound.

Kronos's pianos are cryptically identified as "German" and "Japanese" in all the demo videos, from which I had deduced Bösendorfer and Yamaha respectively - not that I'm surprised to see Steinway on the list, just that I thought they were American since 18-something.
I'd be surprised if Steinway wasn't included in Kronos as well as the Yamaha and Bösey, particularly if it's (Kronos') samples include all of the original HD1 ROM library for compatibility reasons.
But the real question is "will the Kronos be able to reproduce the M1 Piano" exactly enough to satisfy the Vintage-eers.

In fact, Bösendorfer are from Austria. Since Steinway&Sons is the best known company and they've got two factories, one in NYC, but also one in Hamburg (which distributes to everywhere except the USA), they would be my first guess for a "german" grand.
Often you've got two styles of piano covered from Synth-Companies: A Steinway for classical music and a Yamaha preferred for Jazz/Pop.
