Notes with Modulation Delay in EMX1 sound strange

Post by dropdeadlooks »

Hi,

First, here's my setup:

1) Korg Electribe EMX1 and Korg Kaossilator Pro connected to a Mackie mixer
2) Tape output of mixer connected to line-in of my computer running Windows Vista and having a Creative Soundblaster XFi sound card (ugh!)
3) Main output of mixer connected to Roland studio monitors
4) Output from computer connected to same studio monitors (of course to a different input than #3 above)
5) Latest version of REAPER DAW (Creative ASIO drivers with 1 ms latency)

Anytime I record a note/part on the Electribe that has a Modulation Delay and play it through the computer/REAPER (i.e. #4 above), it doesn't sound like the original. It sounds fine when using #3 above so the issue is definitely with the computer/soundcard or the way REAPER is handling it. I know I have to upgrade the sound card to something decent but does anybody have a solution now?

Thank you so much.

You probably still have the sound processing turned on the Soundblaster... some psuedo 5.1 or stereo effect

Also check to see what sample rate your sound card is operating at, when i got my laptop it was running at a lower setting default which has a noticeable effect.
Are you using an actual line in or a mic input? mic inputs causes a lot of distortion because the pickup voltage is so low.
Aint no thing like a chicken wing.....
