Speakers for the EMX-1

Post by Jack7 »

Hello there!
I'm really interested in getting the EMX-1. What kind of speakers does this need? I know these are far from the best, but I have a pair of Altec Lansing computer speakers already in my possession. Would it be possible to run the EMX-1 on these, or do I need better speakers with a bigger cable?

Thanks in advance!

It doesnt matter what speakers you use providing they work off a normal headphone socket, like computer speakers, or headphones.
For the best sound though you should really be plugging it into an amplifier or stereo, smaller speakers dont produce much bass.

Home theatre or computer speakers can do. Particularly the type that come with a sub unit too.

In a more professional situation you'd use studio monitors. You can spend anywhere between £40 to £4000 or more on monitors, and a lot of it is down to taste and budget. Just look at any music gear retailer's website and you'll find quite a selection.

You shouldn't use a guitar or bass amp or anything like that - generally they are mono (not stereo) and only reproduce frequencies in a way that is pleasing for a guitar. They also have a degree of signal distortion built in, even on their 'clean' settings.

Hi, i was in your position a while ago...i found it alot better to buy speakers with a sub rather than an amp, becuase i was using an amp and it changed the sound so much...

Here are the speakers i bought, and they are sweet! REAALLLY LOUD, good quality and certainly for low-end budget at a nice £27.

If you get those speakers you will need one of these jack converters, its the same one i have cause i like gold plated jacks cause i think they give a slightly better sound... Fetches at £2.50..

If you not on a budget obviously go for more expensive ones : ) ... i just bought those as a starter and im more than happy...

If you get the speaker i got, the sub plugs into the wall socket, and the smaller speakers can be plugged / un-plugged at the back of the sub...

If your in USA or some other country, you might wanna check if you can get those locally or online in your country cause it saves on tax n stuff.

Hope that helps! :D

any decent speakers work, i use a nice pair of computer speakers with a sub, its pretty nice and sounds good for having fun, but let me give some advice, if you have the money and are serious about making music just get decent monitors.
im saving up for some now bc im going crazy trying to mix this s**t and get it right.. most commercial speakers emphasis certain frequencies so 'produced' songs really bang on them but in order to get it to that point you need a flat response out of your speakers so you know exactly where the levels are at. thats not to say you cant get the levels knockin with reg speakers but you'll have to test the track out on a bunch of diff systems (Car, home stereo, etc)

If you can't afford ultra flat response monitors, have a look at headphones. I use AKG monitoring headphones, they are awesome.
