Sequencer Help!
Hey, I am new to these forums and just want to first say hello, my name is Ryan and thank you to everyone for reading this post and for your help. I have just bought an M50 after my workhorse Trinity v3 finally bit it. I got it used w/ no books. The Seq is fairly intuitive but I am having a few problems. After reloading a saved sequence I find that whenever I change a program it reverts to the old one when I reset the seq to the beginning! Why does it do this and how do I make it stop? Also, what is the best way to save sequences? Just global/save .sng? Someone told me to save all, but I am not sure why I would want to do this unless I have edited patches. Thanks again, I am losing my mind over this and can't really use this thing until I can figure out what the hell is going on!
I do believe you can download the manual from Korg's website: http://korg.com/Product.aspx?pd=413

You may have a program change recorded in the track so no matter what you do it resets it. This is more likely if you load a MIDI file, but could happen anyway. You can remove this. I haven't had to do this so I don't recall exactly but you might need to remove program changes from the track. Use P6-Track Edit->topmenu->Event Edit. See if there is a program change in your track and delete it if there is.

Are you saving as SNG or SMF? SMF is useful for moving between sequencers like taking your MIDI to a computer or other workstation, however working with the M50 you should save as a SNG because that contains all of the setttings of the sequencer too - arpeggiator, effects routing, program and level and pan etc.
a SMF doesn't have the data fields for this so it stores data as program and control changes at the start of your track, which as you say would prevent you from changing the programs until you remove the program change from the event data. It can be quite messy and unnecessary if you are only working within the M50.
I can't imagine how it would happen if you are starting and always saving as a SNG (unless you deliberately enter a program change whilst recording, or perhaps you have a MIDI feedback loop when recording.
You don't need to do a save all. Even if you edit programs and combis they are still stored in internal memory. Save all is useful for taking a backup though.

Wow, thanks so much. I, inexplicably, did not realize the SEQ I was working on was indeed saved as a smf! I have no idea how this happened as I am pretty sure I saved it as .snjg, but machines don't lie. I have never, despite playing for 16 years, worked with smf sequences. I always used the Trinity internally only and used midi only to sync up w/ my DAW or Cakewalk for recording the sequencer tracks as digital audio, then adding guitar, vox, etc. I feel like an idiot, but thank you guys for rousing me from my stupor. It just goes to show that when you panic, you can miss some pretty obvious stuff!
