hi everyone. So, I just purchased a microkorg a few days ago and I've been trying to figure out how to record in Garageband (note: I really don't want to mess with midi). I've got a 1/4 cable, as well as the 1/8 adapter and I've tried connecting the korg to my macbook through the line-in and headphone jacks, but the sound isn't being detected. I've also made sure to select "line-in" through both the system and garageband preferences, as well as the "real track" option. Am I missing a step? Do I need a mixer or interface to be able to record?
Any help would be appreciated.

Where did you plug it in on the microKorg? Where exactly was every cable and what steps did you take to record?
Without more information its difficult to tell what's wrong. You don't need a mixer or interface necessarily if you have a line-in connection - that is an interface.

Is the volume knob on the Microkorg turned up high enough?
Is the input volume for the line in (in System Preferences) turned up high enough?
Is the 'enable recording' button clicked on your Real Instrument track?

ah, sorry! I didn't know what information was needed...
I ran the cord from the L/Mono output on the back of the Korg to the audio line-in port on my macbook. I had the volume on both the system preferences and the Korg turned up all the way. And yes, I made sure the recording was enabled. In the "track info" on the Real Instrument track, I had the input source set to Mono 1 (Built-in Input) and turned the Monitor "On with feedback protection".

I think I've fixed the problem. I started up a new project in garageband and worked from there. Now everything seems to be working fine.
I'm not sure what happened with that, but at least it's working now.
Anyway, thanks for helping walk me through it. I was worried I was missing something important.
