What korg product is right for me?

I really don't know much about hardware at all..bear with me. Ever since I saw my friend messing with his minikorg, I was hooked. I've always been a fan of techno/electro music and all the cool effects bands use that I listen to, but I'm really not sure which instrument is right for me. Would I be better off going my original route and getting a minikorg[XL] or another synthesizer or would it be better to get a sampler, midi controller, or kaoss to mess around with?
