Korg nano question

Hi. I am in the market for a compact midi controller and The nano korg seems looks like the perfect candidate but I dont think it would work with me out of the box. I have just purchased a vestax Pdx 3000 turntable that is able to play notes via Midi in (by changing speed of motor). I was wondering if the nano would work with this if I use one of those usb to midi adapters. I just want to hook it up directly to the turntable and not through a computer. I really want the nano to work with my turntable because its the perfects size to pair with a turntable.

There is no such thing as a 'USB to MIDI adaptor', because USB and MIDI are very different things.

you get MIDI Interfaces that happen to connect by USB, and some of these (like the E-MU Xmidi 1x1) look an awful lot like just an 'adaptor cable', but you'll see it has a massive lump, which is the 'interface' circuitry.

furthermore, USB is a connection and protocol that requires a host - the computer or similar device, in order to have the drivers and actually control the USB device that is connected.

so your idea kinda goes the wrong way around - the USB end on any USB device has to connect to a computer, you can't connect it to another device. even if you could, nothing would happen because there is no computer to route the information from one device to the other, and they technically 'talk a different language' and require different drivers.

So no, it will only work when attached to a computer, not that you can physically connect it to many other things anyway. Of course, it would be great if someone designed a small box or small computer that could handle the KORG USB-MIDI and provide real midi ports...
