What does "Can use as Wildcard" mean??

Post by Inksta »

Hey guys, just wondered if anyone can help with this?
I have an AIFF sample file called "open your mind" on my USB memory stick that I am wanting to sample/load to my M3!
When I goto media mode and select to load the file, the load dialog box reads:

T OPEN-Y~1 .AIF
(Can use */? as Wildcard)

When I select OK, it writes to internal memory,
but then where do I find the sample?file??? :?

Would really appreciate any advice if any of you guys can help!

A wildcard is an old computer term where when specifying filenames, or doing a search, you would use a star to represent and character.

so for example on your PC in DOS if you were looking for a file and knew it started with a T and ended in a B and was a text file, you could tell it to search for 'T*B.txt'

or if you didn't know the type of file, but knew it was called 'TOMB' for example, you could search for 'TOMB.*'

I assume when loading samples, if you need to load a whole set either numbered or otherwise, for example:
Piano_L1
Piano_L2
Piano_R1
Piano_R2

you could tell it to load Piano_*

when you load a sample, it goes into sampling mode. you need to go there to assign it to a key (or more than one key) in a multisample so that you can select it in program mode.

Make sure you save the multisample, it will convert the audio to Korg Sample Format (KSF) and a keymap (multisample) file too so you don't need the original AIFF, but you will have to load the korg KeyMap (KMP) file every time you want to use it - sample RAM is like computer RAM, volatile, meaning it looses its contents on poweroff.
