Questions about using kaoss pad 3

Post by zonki007@gmx.de »

Hi guys,
I'm testing a kaoss pad 3 at the moment in addition to my normal dj performance.

While playing with this tool I wrote down several questions I wasn't able to answer by myself and the documentation.

1. Is it possible to disable fx relase for the delay effects?
Especially in electronic music we often work with short delay effects without release function

2. Where do I find any documentation about the grid of the pad?
So e.g. what is the x-axis grid when using delay effect 1 (2/1, 1/1, 1/2 etc.)?
Is it possible to edit and change this grid, e.g. to 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128, ...?

3. Is it possible to change timing stepless like you can do this with pioneer mixers and effect tools?

Best Regards and many thanks in advance,
Harri

You can edit the effects and settings to some extend with the KP3-editor software. Did you download it from the Korg website?

There's also a software upgrade of the KP3 (hardware) available. (version 2.0)

The fx-release can be adjusted with the slider in real-time, so you can choose how much of the effect (delay) will sound after you've released the pad.

Some KP3-video's on Youtube are very educational as well.

Check out Denkitribe's video's or some of the other posted here:

 I hope this post is helpfull to you.
Current: Korg Micro-X, KLC-1, KL-DE, Korg Nanokontrol 1, Novation Launchpad I, Roland U-220, Roland U-20, Korg Monotron Duo, Korg Monotron Delay and Korg Taktile49.

Past: Kaoss Pad 3, Roland SH-101, Korg X5, MS-20 usb-controller, Korg Electribe EA-1, Casio HT-700

The best is yet to come.

I already used the KP3 editor but I did not find the possibility to edit the settings of the effects. Could you please tell me where exactly I can do that?

I also updated to 2.0

Concerning the fx-release I relate especially to the delay effects where the fx-release fader has no effect. So any other hint if it's possible?

Hi,

If you read the manual you will find that the FX release does not work for delay effects (pg. 11). The best you could do is quickly turning the FX Depth knob to zero after letting off the touch pad, or change to a different program (which will kill any trailing effect).

You cannot change any of the effects parameters, at least not from what I've found experimenting with the KP3 and its editor software as well as reading the documentation for both. You can save the FX Depth, FX release (for non-delay effects), pad motion, and Hold status for 8 programs (pg. 13).

Since most if not all the delay effects are BPM-synced you can change the BPM to achieve different grid values (1/32 delay at 120 bpm = 1/64 delay at 240 bpm).

I've only had the KP3 for a couple weeks so hopefully someone can prove me wrong on these things, but I spend a lot of time getting to know my equipment inside-out so I should be fairly accurate. I actually only use the KP3 for live sampling/looping and occasional filter effects. The delays on my Roland SP-404SX are much more useable for me.

Best of luck to you in your pursuits. Perhaps a future OS update will address some of the KP3's limitations.
