I have had a mental block against understanding the differences between styles, performances, style performances, sts .. and so on. Rob Sherratt's explanation in the 2008 thread "different between write performance & write sts" was extremely helpful.
Now, with that understanding, I am using the following workflow to get my PA2x set up with the tunes I play. First, I set up a style with the right sounds/rhythm, copying it into a user/favorites bank using the record style function, and then customizing it by using the the write style performance function. I get the upper 4 voices I want and assign them to STS 1. Then, if I want to add lyrics, I write the my customized style in songbook and load the lyrics and link them. Is this workflow correct?
So, with that workflow, almost all my customizing revolves around styles. The only time I would start by writing a performance would be when I want to set up a group of sounds/instruments that I could use with multiple styles.
Do I have it all straight? I appreciate verification from any of our experts. Thanks!

That's exactly what I do ... except that I use Performance banks instead of STS. I don't want the hassle of programming up STS for every style, so I save all my favourite upper keyboard settings in Performances instead. Then I make sure the "Single touch" led is off before I select different styles because I don't want STS1 kicking in. And I auto-select a Performance just by hitting the appropriate Performance bank button (it can Auto select the Performance in each bank that you last selected, global option somewhere to make it happen). That way I have up to 320 keyboard combination "STS" settings via Performances, and they apply in the same way to all Styles.
I also lock the Style volume levels, and the tempo, because I don't want different styles changing the track volume levels or tempo. I often change styles while playing a bridge from one song to the next.
Everyone has their own way of doing things, and yours is perfect, just too much hassle for me!

I learned a lot from these two posts when it comes to styles and workflow.
Thank you both for that.
You didn't explain it in your posts, and I'm sure you both know, but perhaps for other visitors to this forum:
and THEN there is the great Songbook-feature where it all comes together!!
