Confusion about sampling
So I've heard it said somewhere that you can still work with samples even if you don't have the expansion board. Am I wrong here? I realize that without the board I can't record samples directly to the keyboard. I'm ok with that. I have a ksf file I wish to use & have dumped it onto my data card, but have no idea where to go from here. Am I missing something obvious?
I have the max ram (64 mbs) and I still can't get it work! Using AWAVE, I save the .wav or .aiff file as a .KSF file directly onto the SD card. I then put the SD card into the Korg TR, the .KSF file pops up, no problem. Then I choose UTILITY>LOAD SELECTED. It *says* it loads but then....nothing. When I look in the RAM section under OSC 1 all I have is "NewMS-----000" and it is blank...no sound.kanthos wrote:You don't need EXB-SMPL, but you do need to have some RAM.
Am I missing some step here converting between the .wav file and the "multisample" that is used as the building block for a program?
"The mirror and the lie."
in the OSC settings you don't choose an individual sample but a multisample. a multisample is an arranged collection of samples that are mapped across the keyboard.
You need to load a sample (or multiple ones) in awave and assign them to the correct notes. Then save the collection/set/instrument/whatever awave calls it as a KMP. when you save as a KMP it will automatically create a directory that you need to keep with it which includes the appropriate KSFs.

similiar problem
I'm having a similiar problem and was hoping someone can help me out.
I have an SM card and 64mb's of RAM installed, but cannot afford to purchase the EXB-SMPL. Can I just load individual .aifs and .wavs from the Smartmedia card directly onto the Triton? I have a MAC so I cannot download that program to create program files. Is there another program I can use?
Best,
Ryan

The TR can not play wav files without the sampler expansion. You need to make multisample files in korg format, and to do that you can use Awave Studio. I don't know of any similar programs for mac, but you could use an emulator to run it.
But be aware that it's not plug and play! You need to understand how the synth works first. You should know what an oscilator is, a sample compared to a multisample, a program, a combi and so on. If you want to dig in to it I suggest you start by reading the posts by X-Trade on this thread. Then start searching the forum for threads on sampling. If you still feel you're up for the task and want to make use of samples, I could make a beginners tutorial on Awave Studio. But take the time to read and understand what X-Trade wrote first. 'Cos if you can't get your head around that, you'd be better of using something else than your synth for sampling. Honestly!
Good luck

Thanks for the reading suggestion but I am very well versed in synthesis and know the inner workings of the Triton very well. This is the one aspect I have not dealt with yet because I usually use standalone samplers. I figured I couldn't load the individual samples but wasn't sure if I had skimmed over something obvious in the manuals.
I do not use emulators or else I would use Awave. I was inquiring about Mac-based programs to create multisamples, so if anyone knows of one please let me know. Thank you.
