Understanding changes in pattern and parts (FX common, mod)

Hi, I'm finally getting to understand my EMX1 but I got a few doubts still:

I know there are only 3 effects for all parts to share. But what happens if, in the pattern mode, I have the fx send turned off. Does it turns it off also in the parts that have it activated? And what happens with the common and modulation parts... do they alter the sound of the whole pattern or just the selected part?

I guess the general question is if changes I make in the pattern mode affect the whole pattern or just the parts selected? What can I change here that doesn't affect the individual parts?

A light here would be highly appreciated by this new and electribe-loving member of this forum.
