Changing patches on it's own. I'm the only one with this?

Post by McHale »

So at practice last night, my M50 must have changed patches 4 times. Has anyone one else had this problem? I'm positive it's because I'm not the most gentle with my synths when I do organ stuff. I called tech support and the guy I spoke to said he hadn't heard of anyone having the problem. I think because of the angle of the M50, the rotary dial is moving when the keyboard shakes.

For a test, I'm going to fold up a piece of paper and wedge it in the dial and see if that stops it.

Oh yah, I asked the support guy if he happened to have an idea how to disable the jog dial (via hardware preferably) and he said they didn't have the schematic for it.

Jerry, while I know modifications to new equipment is frowned upon, this is needed to keep the synth from changing patches live. Can you help me get a schematic for the jog dial connections? Just want to put a toggle inline so I can disable it when playing out.

Thanks either way...

Let's just say I LOVE the Screamin' CX-3 organ. :)

You can't do 70's classic rock without LOTS of gliss and fast organ runs. At least I didn't study under Jerry Lee Lewis. The M50 wouldn't know what hit it...

I'm on the same boat; I loved my -gone- CX-3.
If the M50 can't stand serious organ playing, I think I'll pass on it.

Let me figure out what the issue is first. I know I've read other people having the same problem (I think it was even on the Korg forums) and I'm assuming it's because of the jog dial.

Tomorrow night I'm going to avoid playing any songs on it where I do a lot of power gliss on the organ. I'm still not sure exactly what the cause is and I can't reproduce it when I want to. I've banged on the keyboard with my fists around the jog dial and it doesn't change patches on me.

I'll figure it out...

Poor little M50

Now serious. Why don't you try prying out the whole wheel (carefully please) with the tip of a scredriver and you'll find out if is the wheel or some internal loose contacts.

that's a good idea. I'm not going to mess with anything before tomorrow night's gig (I think it's being recorded for this year's demo) but I'll pop it off before next practice. That's where it happens the most.

I never use it anyway...
