Piano Sounds

I am really enjoying my new Korg M50! I was wondering if there were anyone that knew of additional Piano sounds that I could get my hands on! Some that are a bit more realistic than what's on there now. Or, can anyone share how to make the appropriate changes so that I can edit one that is already in existence??? I noticed in one of the threads that you could download PCG files. I would love to do that to get a few more GREAT piano sounds!!! Any ideas????

You can use Tone Adjust to tweak them. I usually add some reverb as total filter on my combis, just to add a bit of ambience to the whole sounds. Try it.

Remember to download the Vintage Keys from korg.com, which includes some nice electric pianos.

Hey thanks very much for the tip! I will definately give that a try when I get home today! It's really important to me to make sure I get as crisp of a piano sound as I can! I'm a Korg addict and I just enjoy their keyboards. Some of my friends have Yamaha keyboards and they swear the pianos are clearer and much BETTER! If you have any knowledge of PCG files that compare really well to the Yamaha, let me know or please share.

I purchased the keyboard from Sweetwater, and I believe the vintage pianos / EPs are on it already. How can I verify that?

First of all check the firmware version. 1.1.0 is the latest. You can look at the version upon bootup the keyboard.

As for the vintage keys, they are probably not installed by default, but again they might be. I guess you can check the voice list. Unzip this file:

and check you have the voices in the locations specified on the PDF. If they are there, then you have them (I guess).

The voice list is in this file (found inside the ZIP file): M50_ProVintageKeys_References.pdf

I've had a look for a guide for this but couldn't find one, is there any chance someone could post a step by step guide to getting these on my Korg?

Thank you all for the information! When I get off work and get to my studio, I'll be anxious to try a few things! Outside of the EPs, I'm really looking for a clear crisp piano sound used in a church setting for Gospel musicians! That's what I play most of the time, so having that sound will be very important to me! Sounding like a brand new baby grand piano! (smile)

For a "clear piano" sound, just go to Tone Adjust (tab on P0: Play) and turn switch 8 on. Push two buttons, and you're set!

Los: Which patch are you referring too? The M50- Grand Piano? I would like to see if I can get a sound similar to what's found on a Yamaha? I don't really care for those keyboards because I find Korg to be better when it comes to sequecing, etc. Plus, I need a keyboard quite a bit for church and this one doesn't weight much at all!!! (smile)

Just select a piano you think is a good start, but needs just a little oomph. Then switch to the Tone Adjust tab and begin experiencing with all the selectors and sliders. Soon you'll discover the one that really do the job.
You can also give a tad bit of reverb which helps a lot to give a bit of presence or ambience to the whole sound. Check Richard Pormidoni's video on filtering in Youtube.

Yes, I was referring to M50 Grand Piano, but what Mocando is saying applies to all the programs. I haven't really messed around too much with the EQ settings on the M50 Grand Piano, but that can make a difference; also, you could go to the Global settings and adjust the velocity curve for the keyboard (some people swear by it, but to me, it makes the piano a bit too bright)...
