Graham - I Know You Needed Me - May 09

Post by GrahamBanks »

Hi Everyone~

Here is my May song - and it isn't even the last day of the month yet!

This song is less complex lyrically, and maybe there is more there symbolically and maybe there isn't

This is also a departure for me because there are no synths to be found. That means you have to listen to my marginal guitar work.

Looking forward to your comments,

Graham

This song is like a diamond in the rough. The basic song you've written is very nice. Some of the instrumentation seems too rough or pitchy at times, esp in the beginning, the instrumental break is pretty strong as is the vocal. I think it's the slide guitar that I'm having some troube with. Also, it's a bit off putting when the song seems to come to a comlete end and then starts back up again, I kept thinking it was over then it was not. I do believe with some tightening up you have a nice song here. Keep up the good work.

I knew you would pick up on that.
I didn't want to say anything initially, but it is my first ever pedal steel work. I spent a couple days with the instrument, then plugged it in and recorded, and then this song formed around the recorded bits.

I fully intend to redo all the steel parts once I am more qualified on the instrument...maybe I'll learn how to tune it too!

I really like your usage of it, it just needs to be fine tuned to fit the notes and mix better. But do keep it in there, it has an interesting effect on the overall sound.

I agree with George, some work is needed, but do stay with that steel, it's a great instrument when played well.
Good luck.

Ditto with George mate, but a Diamond in the Rough is worth 2 in the bush!, stick with it Graham and you'll get there. Well done!
