Computer speakers for M50 ?

Post by Run »

Hi, here's a copy of an earlier post about small speakers I could use instead of using my PA system....I received good suggestions about standard monitors but no advice about using computer active speakers with a sub. Has anyone tried this because there are some pretty good PC speakers on the market. Could I use the M50 phone output as a connection?
What about these:...or a bose set with a sub (see link at the end)

Here's an email sent to M-Audio:

Hi, I own a M50 Korg Workstation running through my PA system but sometime, I'd like to be able to use it only with two monitors. The M50 has only two outputs: L/R phono outs and Phones out.
The specs:
Audio Outputs Analog
AUDIO OUTPUT
L/MONO, R
1/4" TS (Mono), unbalanced, Volume slider controls only L/Mono and R
Output Impedance 1.1kΩ stereo; 550Ω mono (L/Mono only)
Maximum Level +16.0 dBu
Load Impedance 10 kΩ or greater
Headphone output
1/4" TRS (Stereo), Volume slider
Output Impedance 33Ω
Maximum Level 32+ 32 mW @33Ω

I'd like to use your M-Audio Studiophile 40 (input impedance 10 ohms unbalance 20 ohms balance....Sensitivity 100mV)
So my questions are: 1. Are these specs ok for a proper usage?
2. Could I use the phones out connection without inpairing functionnality and sound?

Thanks for any advice.

Copy:
My M50 L/mono, R outs are connected to a main big enough PA system via a mixer and I'd like your advices on small but effective powered speakers that I'd connect to the L/mono, R or the headphones stereo output just to be able to practice without using the mixer or play the M50 everywhere I'd like to.
ps Would computer powered speakers like the ones from this link do the trick?

They look ok but you have to read more rewievs about them ,if you use speakers to do your mixing then you want neutral speakers ,no bass boost ect.Good luck

You'd do much better getting these Logitech Z-2300:

There are tons of reviews you can check out on youtube about them. They rock. I own the 5.1 channel version of the same thing. Great value. THX rated. Ya gotta hear them. You won't take them back.

yea i agree with that guy ^^^^^
i own a pair of these Logitech Z-2300 and they work perfect, you can control the bass with a small knob, i think they were ment for gaming but theyre still preety good, i used to love mine until my L speaker broke cuz i tripped on the wire,so i opened the sub-box and somehow a bolt fell on top of the subwoofer and blew it up, now i got only one speaker and a raddling subwoofer, but before that theyre great, im saving up for the more newer version of these, there around $200

I bought the M-Audio Studiophile 40 and they meet all my needs and I like the line in jack in front of the left powered speaker.
Thanks for your advices.
