Loading expanded PCM modules other than EXPCM03

Post by cbachelu »

Can anyone tell me how to properly load the EXPCM01/02/04 modules? I have them on a USB device, and as long as the EXPCM03 module is not also on the device (since this module loads automatically on M3 start-up), I expected to be able to use the Media Load menu to load one of these other modules (there is only enough memory for 1 at a time, it seems). However, although it appears to load each module okay, I cannot find where the sounds have been placed. I was expecting them to be placed in U-G, but the EXPCM03 sounds are still listed there (even though most of them don't sound at all). I checked all the other user banks, and also the unused internal bank E, but the EXPCM sounds don't appear anywhere. Any ideas? All suggestions welcome.

Hi,

Best option would be to fit the EXB-M256 expansion RAM card which will allow all four sets of PCM samples to be held in memory at the same time.

However if you are sticking with the 64 Mb internal memory for now, then you will only be able to have one set of PCM samples avaiolable at any one time. With the XPanded software release, Korg provided a new EX-PCM load/unload menu which is fully documented in the release notes that were included in the XPanded release folder.

If you have a problem finding the relevant document, I'll copy and paste the relevant sections here.

Rob:
I'm stuck without the expansion card for the moment, so I've been trying to load the PCM modules one at a time. I have been following the instructions in the M3 XP Supplementary Guide. However, when I load in either the EXPCM01 or EXPCM02 modules, despite the messages the M3 displays saying that it's loading the files, and displaying the Loaded status for the module (in the Media mode's EX-USB-PCM tab), there are no new programs in the User E bank nor any new combinations in the first 32 combinations in the User E bank. I'm able to successfully load the EXPCM04 module (the new programs show up as documented in the first 27 spots of User G bank), so it's only the 01/02 modules that I just can't access.

Any more suggestions?

Hi

From what i can gather, there are no new programs loaded in the user bank.

However some of the factory combis need to use programs in these expansions, you can tell the ones because they reference the needed expansion in the name of the combi.

You are correct about the EX-USB-PCM03 sounds - they just "replace" the sounds for the pianos in certain of the programs. However, in the M3 Xpanded supplementary guide, it explicitly says that EX-USB-PCM01 and 02 programs and combinations are supposed to be stored in user bank E, and further, in the voice name list manual, these sounds are shown assigned to the 127 programs.

However, as I mentioned, even though the file EXPCM01/02 files seem to load properly, nothing shows up in user bank E (or any other bank, internal or user that I can see).

Anybody else have this same problem? If so, how did you solve it?

Hi Carol,

Yes the samples are loaded OK, but the factory combis and programs are missing for some reason. There is procedure to reload them documented somewhere, but I haven't had to do that myself.

When you upgraded to OSv2, did you run the procedure twice ? I wonder if you are running with half an upgrade perhaps.

Rob:
Does that mean you haven't found a way to get them either? If you did manage to get them loaded in user bank E, can you please tell me how?

As far as I can tell, the procedure to reload them - using the load tab under the media mode - is in the supplementary manual and I have tried that - No luck.

When I upgraded, I did run the procedure twice, as specified.
