New R3 Patch: DubStep Wobble Bass

Post by xmlguy »

I've uploaded a new R3 patch that does a Dubstep Wobble Bass. It has three different way to do the wobble: manually with the pitch wheel, key velocity using knob 1 and knob 2 parameters, and constant wobble with knob 3, knob 4, and the tempo knob for speed. More detail is in the patch description. It can also be used to do a DJ sub-bass scratch by pulling the pitch wheel on deep bass notes.

Look for it in the R3 download section when the moderators have a chance to post it.

I'm interested in any comments, good or bad, about it. Thanks!

By the way, I think this is a good patch to judge the "phatness" of the R3 engine. Doesn't sound thin and shimmery to me. Judge for yourself!

Ooh sounds nice. The R3 keeps surprising me. I only started messing with the editor the other day and started really getting into the guts of the synth, it's a really powerful synth engine hidden under that brown casing. I'll check the patch out, cheers. :)

After you have a chance to try it, I'd be glad to hear any comments you have about it, good or bad. I like to keep tweaking my patches to improve them, so all ideas are welcome.

DUBWOBBLE

Post by Milpow27 »

I think the sound is pretty cool but how can I make it go from 1/4 to 1/8 to 1/16 wobbles?

You should be able to reassign one of the four knobs to "LFO1 Sync Note". Then you can specifically dial to 1/4 to 1/8 to 1/16, or you can assign the proper midi CC#90 value to a pad like the padKontrol. If you're not sure of the midi code, you can change the sync note and then record the midi it generates when you change the value to 1/4, for example. The wobble bass patch uses LFO1, which is synched to the R3 tempo. The R3 tempo can use the internal BPM or an external BPM via midi.

in the editor (once you have loaded and synchronised a library from your R3, or just in a blank library), right click on the slot you want to load it into, and select 'load' (or maybe its 'open').

Thats it. :)

Hey xml

Thanks for this patch! I'm going to try some of the alterations mentioned in this thread.

Can you, or anyone, help guide me in how to go from the duplet wobble effect to a triplet wobble effect?

I messed with the parameters for a while but didn't see any triplet options.

Peace and thanks again!

You're welcome! The R3 LFOs have 1/3, 1/6, 1/12, and 1/24, which all have a factor of 3 included, but the problem is that these values are not next to each other in the list, so it would be tricky to go from 1/3 to 1/6 directly on the R3. This can be solved with an external midi controller. For example, the Korg padKontrol can assign different midi CC#s to the pads, so you should be able to easily set up pads for all the LFO speeds you wish.

Hey community members, I just installed the sound editor for the first time and wow have I been missing out!

This is a great patch, thanks for the upload! Yet, how can I change the second knob to control the LFO1 frequency? Why is it assigned to LFO2 if it is not creating/controlling the wobble?

Also, is switching between note values directly possible or is an external midi controller necessary?

Thanks!
