What to do?

Post by NormKorg »

I need some input because I really suspect an internal hardware problem with my board. I've troubleshooted as much as possible with my very limited experience and 12 people have apparently had a look at my last post on the problem with assigning sounds to all 8 pads on the M3.

Because I do suspect a problem other that my own ignorance (I'm sure a few of the 12 who looked in on my post know a whole lot more than myself) so I am thinking about returning the workstation to the store where it was purchased yesterday and ask for either an exchange or a refund.

One additional question I have is regarding the O/S (v1.1.0) on this workstation. It appears from my readings on this board that a v2 is available which indicates to me that the rig that I was given yesterday has perhaps been sitting around for awhile.

Should I do an exchange after testing the chord assign to all pads or should I take a refund and wait for the store to bring in a workstation with the newer O/S.

I ask this because my expertise is actually still DSLR photography and I know the basic instability of versions, some correcting one problem but adding additional problems.

I would appreciate any input regarding any and all of the above from you people who are much much more experienced with this workstation.

I would appreciate any quick responses as I plan to do something tomorrow before the new year. I don't want this to be hanging over me during my new year celebrations   :D

cheers

Well, I've packed it up and I'm taking it back. I may decide on either a refund or a check on the display rig, since the one I purchased from Axe in Edmonton was the only available besides the store demo.

At least I'll be able to check the store demo to see if the same problem exists, which would probably make me a monkey. If it "does" work with each of the 8 pads then I'll know that I am not completely a moron.

I'll first check the demo O/S, then the pads, then make a decision. You know, this "workstation" stuff is really similar to new DSLR things, especially with the "new and great" as well as the "software O/S upgrades"

I love the M3, so I hope everything works out. If not, maybe I'll pick up one of those Triton extremes

I would take it back if I was you, I've just tried mine and all pads worked fine.

Mine too was on ver 1 of the OS when I purchased it, I immediately upgraded to the latest OS and so far so good, no problems found as yet.

I wouldn't wait for the latest as the upgrade is free so just get it exchanged, download the upgrade and apply it.

I'm still learning my M3 and can honestly say I think it's going to keep me happy for a long time, there is so much you can do yet you can just switch it on and play if that's all you want to do, but when you want some fun get the drums and karma on the go and you're away. Still lots to learn though.

First thing I would do is to calibrate the pads from Global Mode/Upper RH page menu command. Then we can see if things are good/no good.

Thanks guys, I returned the rig and got a replacement. First thing I did was try the pad assign on all 8 and everything worked fine on the new one, so it was definitely a hardware problem.

I appreciate your input :) It's great to have a sounding board like this because I'm sure I will run into loads of problems as I learn and work with this great workstation.
