Help! (about changing sounds)
Hello, just a simple question.
When I set a sound in the X50 play it, press the damper pedal to keep it sounding and then I change the sound using one of the "favorites" , the previous "dampered" sound stops suddendly even if the pedal its still down. ¿Is there any way to make that the previous sound "fades out" or something instead of that?
I appreciate you help, thank you very much.

You can make the sound remain by continuing to hold down the keys while you change Programs (this won't work while changing Combis). You'll hear the sound change slightly, though, because all three of the X50's effects processors will change along with the Program itself.
Also note that if you switch to a monophonic sound, and play a new key, it will cancel the other keys you're holding.

thanks Richard for your answer!!! is this common to all korg synths? I mean, that combis cannot remain sounding when you change them?
would you recommend using some other method to do this (delay pedal, using filters and a pedal to trigger them within a single combi to "surface" some sounds and dim others in it)?
cheers

My pleasure. This is true of all current Korg's workstations (and the X50/microX). You could certainly use a delay pedal to compensate for this... Unfortunately you can't use the internal delay effects, because they'll also change when you switch Combis.
If you're only switching between one and two Combis, you could try working in Multi mode and using the "copy from combi" command in the utility menu... but just to warn you, you'll have to enter all the data from the second Combi manually. Then you'd assign a switch (or the modwheel, if you won't be using it for anything else) to mute and unmute.

it could do. well a delay pedal will obviously affect the sound. i think the idea is only to turn on the delay when you actually change patches though. a bit like my minikp does when you take your finger off the pad (they call itt FXrelease). the other thing is it would force you to play in mono, unless you used two pedals, or better a stereo rack mount unit or FX on your mixer.
the best solution actually is to avoid having to change patches - build your own combi (or use multi mode as I believe it is called on the X50 and Microx), and extra MIDI keyboard(s), when you want to change sound, simply make sure that you have that sound responding to the other midi keyboard on your custom combi for that song. on the X50 or TR with a larger keyboard you could make use of key splitting too.

This Gap-problem is very common in synths these days... Actually when it comes to korg they all have it. Even the mighty Oasys. I actually know only two boards in the market right now that don't have the gap while changing the sound: Roland Fantom-G and Kurzweil PC3.
Korg Triton Classic 61-keys, Native Instruments Kore 2 (SW&HW)
I don't think this fixes the problem, but the idea is that if you set up a combi for your song with the different sounds you need on external keyboards... then you just move over to the other keyboard to play your other sound. so if you have midi merge gear then you could have up to 8 (in combi mode) or 16 (in seq/multi mode) different sounds, on as many keyboards. or you can split and layer as you like... its all to do with the good planning and programming in order to prepare for a gig.fravius wrote:Hi! I've red somewhere that this gap when switching combis can be erased if you use a controller connected to the X50, but that the only thing i know. if someone has any controller and try... maybe could give us some answers.
The problem is that i don't have any controller...

X50 external prgram changes
Hi guys, I have a problem to solve:
I use my X50 connected with Cubase, where I use a midi track to change sounds while I'm playing.
I'm not able to switch from "combi" mode to "prog" mode, program change command switch only bank and pattern.
Is there anyone who have got the same problem ?
Thanks

the best solution to use would be to convert the programs you are going to use to single-program combis. people use this technique for many reasons (e.g. advancing with a foot pedal too).
however, you should find the SYSEX message information in your X50 MIDI Implementation chart (back of PG I think). Pretty sure this covers the prog/combi change and other stuff.
or just plug in and record the change from prog to combi or back again into your sequencer (with sysex enabled). Think this works!

Thanks X-trade for your help: I already plugged X50 to sequencer and record all midi data when I manually change sounds, but the only thing I can'r record is the changing from prog and back (no message starts from keyboard durign this operation). Do you think it could be forced with a SySex message? I read the Midi implementation charts:X-Trade wrote:the best solution to use would be to convert the programs you are going to use to single-program combis. people use this technique for many reasons (e.g. advancing with a foot pedal too).

Ok the string to change modes is:
F0,42,3g (g specifies the midi channel) 7A (X50 series I.D) 4E (This is the mode change command) 00 (combi mode or 02 prog mode) 00 F7
So that's
F0 42 3g 7A 4E 00 00 F7 combi mode
F0 42 3g 7A 4E 02 00 F7 prog mode
To anyboby who can interest.
Bye.
