61,76,88?

Post by omnipotentrb »

Hey, I'm very curious in to which version of the M3 you guys purchased and the reasons why? Maybe that'll help me choose between the 61,76 and 88 key versions thx!

Wirth a username of "omnipotent" I guess I should address you as "Lord God" :-)

Anyway t answer your question, it's a trade off. Only you can make the choice.

The 61 note version is smallest, lightest and cheapest. Easiest to transport. But to be honest, a 61 note keyboard is VERY restrictive for someone used to an 88 note piano. Also the keys are lightly sprung and the lowest quality of the three options.

The 76 note version is in my opinion a good compromise all round. It is still lightweight enough to be transported to gigs on a regular basis. The keyboard feel and quality is better than the 61 note version. It's actually quite nice to play for a pianist. You can mount an optional Radias rack. It's the one I chose.

The 88 note version is a weighted board that is the "best" feel for a pianist and probably the worst feel for an organist whop is used to sprung keybeds. It is the heaviest of all options, the most expensive and the most difficult to transport. It will not fit in the back of many cars. It's not really suitable for casual gigging, you have to be pretty serious to move this from place to place.

Best regards,
Rob

61 73 88

I bought a M3-61 about a year ago. My main reason at the time was weight. I travel a lot and portability is an issue. If I could do it over, I'd get the 73. The M3 is amazing and I'm always wishing I had one more zone or another octave for this or that.

I love my M3 but if I had to do it over again....I'd get the 73.

hmm alright i think im gonna go with the 73 then. Would transportion be an isssue in your opinion? And are they carrying bags for the 73 key version?

Go with the 73. I've got the 61 and wish I got the 73 instead.

I went with the 73 key for two reasons. One is lack of space in the room I use and the second is I have a piano for weighted key action. In all honesty if you have a house, I don't know why more people don't own a piano. I have seen very good quality pianos for right about 2 grand or under and you can get a serviceable decent one for under one grand. People always seem to be concerned about quality piano sounds and action yet they pass up the opportunity to own a real one and instead get a new computer and softsynth and wind up spending about 2 grand or more. Obviously this isn't an option for everyone but it happens alot with so many people.

No I meant the 73 key. Those extra 15 keys length in the 88 key version makes the different whether it fits in the room I needed it in or not. Weird but true none the less. :)

I use the keyboard as much for "data" entry performance, ie drums and manual arps, as I do for musical performance so a weighted keyboard would make that more difficult, so I always go with the largest sprung keybed. 73 for me

I went with the 73 version, because weighted piano keys don't work for me. The extra octave is a must in my opinion. Especially with the M3 where you play Karma in a split often, a 61 key version is just too short. If they would make an 88 key version with synth action keys, I would take it. With an instrument as versatile as the M3 you never have too much keys. As long as they are within reach.. :D

I got the 88 key version. I did alot of debating though. In the end, it wasn't up to me though. i'm only 17 and this was a christmas present. I just finally convinced them that I really didn't want to drift away from the "real feel" of a piano that i've known and loved since I started playing. Anyway, it got here the other day, and i'm VERY happy with it. Feels even better than my piano. The main thing I was concerned about it that if I every wanted a synth feel...it wouldn't be avalible..but if you have a semi-weighted keyboard, connect up with Midi and you're good to go.

and in holland is most of the time easier to sell a 76 (73) keyboard instead an 88 or 61.

The price (if you ever want to sell it!!!!!!) is most of the time higher.
