Korg DNC Official Demos

Post by TommyF »

I found these demos in the support forum of the German Korg distributor. They are official demoes made by Korg Italy and they show the expressiveness of the DNC voices in the upcoming OS 2.0 for Pa800/Pa2X:

You can read the original forum post here. It also contains a few screenshots.

Kind regards,

Totally Awesome! I wish we could get some more demo's???

Please!

I just hope it will be easy to play these, Yamaha's initial expressive sounds were caled Mega voices and it was near imposibble to play on the keyboard, they were really designed for style programming...Then came Super Articulation...pretty playable, but kind of hard in a way to play them well...then comes SA-2 from Yamaha (don't know about them yet)...

SO, I hope these are very playable..if so it's a Home run for Korg!!!

Can somone answere this question?

These demos sound beautiful, I'm pretty sure Korg will have to release a Musical Resource update to accompany the new updates. I just hope the average player can make use of the DNC since it sort of requires a pro touch.

No Pain No Gain!!!! More articulation will require more "Player" involvement ... without a doubt!! But that's where the fun lies!!

This may be stating the obvious, but when playing any instrument emulation you have to phrase in the way a given instrumentalist would phrase. It's just that I've heard so many arranger players, not in the case of these demos, belt through a sax solo that a real sax player would never be able to physically manage. I mean, a sax player has to breathe now and again.

So, listen to human players, note how they approach their instrument and then work at it. It's just great that we as keyboardists have these realistic sounds at our disposal, let's not blow it by failing to use them realistically and, as jckeeys says, "that's where the fun lies".

Hi all,
sorry to be boring, but I saw the launch of the Tyros 3 at Pakefield. The new voices are called super articulation 2. To use these there are two buttons on the lower left hand cheek of the keyboard, depending on which button is pressed, the sound reacts in different ways. The new Korg sounds will also utilise the two buttons on the lower left hand cheek of the keyboard ( assignable buttons 1 and 2 ). To me, although I am no expert and considering both companies keep their plans secret, it is quite a coincidence that both companies have brought out new sounds ( that are controlled in the same way) at roughly the same time.
Anyone agree ?

Hope this is only a suggestion! Since those buttons are assignable, on can alternatively assign DNC controls to any other ones, e.g. EC5 pedal switches?

While I don't know for sure...my guess is you can use EC5 or other assignable switches to control DNC.

Also...Yup, intervallic recognition is there. So, different samples can be triggered by playing different intervals. (Quote from Korg Italy)

Hi,

You can assign DNC control to the various physical controllers, not just to the Assignable Switches. Assignment is global, so you must program it once depending on your setup or preference, and use ot forever.

The Nylon Guitar is perhaps the best set of ROM samples in Korg Pa800. It is sampled at many velocities, and there are a lot of samples that are not fully used in standard guitar programs. So I guess that's why Nylon Guitar DNC sound is very nice.
But the Tenor sax DNC does not sound very convincing to me. Maybe it is just the demo. I guess it takes a while to learn how to use all that DNC stuff.
Anyway, any updates from Korg are highly appreciated. I think this keyboard has a lot of potential, and maybe future OS 2.2 or 2.5 will bring even more good surprises to us. Thanks!
