So, ok, indeed, the leds on the Zero's are not in dB, they are just numbers.. on the master out, anything <=0 is green, 0 < 10 is orange, 10 & 18 are red. on the input channels, everything is green <= 8, and 9 &10 are red.
Now what is a proper input/output level then ? I notice, when recording through firewire, in order to get a correct input level in the recording software, I have to output up to the red leds (so <=10). In practice, that means, turns the master out volume to full. If set like this, the red leds blinking on the input channels are in sync with the red leds blinking in the master out.
What do the orange leds mean then ?
I'm not an audio wiz .. I can't calc in dB's by head. And I have no comparison here. All I can do is ignore the orange leds. Is that the correct way to go ? If I blast out +10, will the PA man die ? When does distortion kick in ?
What do other people do ?
