Can I have big samples in Song cue list?

Post by Tonefloat »

Hi, I am new to this forum and this forum is really informative. I play in an 80's synth pop band and our current setup is Cubase Studio 4, microKorg, padKontrol and Ableton Live 6.

I have used a Triton between 2000 and 2003 so I am familiar with the concept. I sold it because we moved on to a dirtier sound with heavy use of analog or VA gear. Recently we sold off almost all our hardware and went for the software route using Minimoog V, Pro-53 and Vanguard.

Initially I stumbled on a Akai MPC 1000 and enjoyed it. It was fun to use! After I sold my Triton I never thought I would consider a workstation again. But then I played a M3 at my local music store and the sound even without EXB radias was great.

Ok, my question is:

We are playing live a set of about six or seven songs. Some of them done with gear we no longer have so they are 40-45 MB wave files. Can I set up a song cue list with one sample for each song and step thru the cue list?

Meaning when I start the first song it will load the sample and when I trigger the next song the sample will be replaced with the new In song sample?

We will add some effects and some additional M3 playing over the samples to add some additional edge. Eventually we will have a mixture of wave samples of old stuff and regular M3 songs. But we will not re record old stuff with the M3 at this stage.

I hope you understand my queries!

Regards
Peter

I guess it all comes down to sample loading time.

Anyone, how long would it take to load a 40 MB wave as an In song sample?
