EMX Formant demo

Post by Sarrova-Q »

Just a short demo to demonstrate what the Formant Oscillator is capable of:

Electribe EMX presenting itself:

that's pretty cool... I'm still digging into the formant sounds...is that the waveform, or the effect or both?

I only used two synth parts making this demo:

I used the formant oscillator with a lot of motion sequence to generate different vowels like 'EE' and AAI'
and in addition to that the dual oscillator (set to sawtooth + noise) for generating sounds like 'T' or 'S' (also with motion sequences like changing the filter from Low to High Pass).

At the end of the demo I used the pitch shifter for a different kind of voice.

I noticed that many people didn't know this kind of e-talking was possible in the EMX, so I decided to make a demo of it.

hey that is very impressive. I knew it was possible never had the energy to do it. The one thing I didn't think about was a second synth part to add the tone. Good job man, I really like it.

Many thx for the nice replies.

Just to thank you guys I made another demo . This time I made a full song so you can here what the 'formant talking' sounds like in a mix.
Everything you here is straight from the EMX, no overdubbing or external FX is used.
The sidechain effect is done with AMP modulation and live tweaking (that's what knobs are meant for :D ).

The song is called "Thank You / Electro Music"

very nice. liked the song, too. It's going on my ipod, I wanna hear in in my car... (the true test!) ;)

I just was goofing around myself with the formants today and ripped this one out...only spent a few hours on it so far, and I basically did this mix on the fly, so lots of mistakes. I noticed from your description that you use only hardware in your live setup. That's what I'm aiming for too...

the formant stuff starts at around 1:44... I wasn't trying to make it talk, I just was playing with the sounds.

anyway, thanks for the demo. Lots to play with!

Whoo!! Kick Ass! Love this song. Man this is a nice song to show off the EMX. :D
Back in my day, we didn't have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we'd have to just shove them together.

man that tune is f*ck*ng SUPERB !!!

possibly the coolest electribe tune ive heard anyone do yet , lovin that style n sound youve got going there . Tight my main man , and i love the general oldskool/nu-skool house sounds .

dropped that one a rating for sure

i'll be expecting you to do well in the next electribe tourney

P.S. after my third listen i really did almost forget the voice isnt sampled . Excellant , love the execution on this .

gotta love the pads pumping with the bass drum. one of my fave tricks, I even used to do it for my guitar-based bands...throw a side mix of BD, bass guitar, and rhythm guitar through a cheap- ass 3630 and bring it front and center...

MBV used to experiment with s**t like that...
