New Mac User

Post by laughing_bear »

Greetings,

I took the plunge and configured a Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro, should be with me in April.

The Desktop will be my workhorse with 8 cores at 3.0Ghz, 16 Gb Ram and 2 TB internal. The Macbook my in the field Mac for photography, 2.6 Ghz, 4 Gig Ram and the faster 200 Gig HD. For the desktop I got two 24 Inch Eizos and a Quato 26 inch wide gammut monitor in the middle. Sound card will be from Lynx.

Really look forward to work with this setup. :D

You folks who use Mac's since long, can you give me some hints on what websites and eventually fora are a "must visit regulary" to learn and stay on track? Thanks a bunch!

OMG WHAT AN AMAZING SETUP!!!

I regularly check the Apple website, there are tons of infos in the Developer section.
Always give a look to Version Tracker, too.

Thanks Diego.

I am all new to Macs, but I am reasonably certain this setup will do me fine for the next 3 years or longer. The latest CPUs they use are all "Penryns" with lesser power consumption.

I hope to be able to squeeze in the Euphonics artists series controller and mix expansion as well.

Looks really good to me!

Hey Bear, you won't regret your choice, you'll love Mac setup.
Much more smooth to use, more stable, more pleasure to work with.

These control surfaces are simply amazing, but I think they still cost a little too much; I would choose a mackie control with all its expansions.

What sequencer will you go for on the Mac side?

stick with Nuendo, also because the Eucon Protocol is directly supported, no HUI needed, better fader resolution 1024 instead of 512 etc.

Oh, yes, Nuendo supports a lot of innovative protocols...
But I still think that 512 steps are more than enough for a 10cm fader
BTW, these are great control surfaces, and it will be a pleasure to use them!
I've always being fascinated by the Mackie Control series, but that's just my two cents.
