kaossilator covered in ESX?

Post by mrtunes »

hey looks like a great forum here. i just got a korg esx-1 this weekend which i'm really stoked about getting into. i've also been interested in the korg kaossilator as it seems to have some potential for live shows.

i was wondering if the basic function of the ribbon slider and pitch fader on the ESX already does this(i noticed you can set the scale)? i understand what the kaossilator has over the esx in terms of this sort of scale performance is a wide range of sounds as well it can do things like overdub looping.

you can jam on the ESX1 ribbon. try reversing the arp controls in the global menu, set the scale to a 5 note scale, and only use a single note in the arp. play with the glide to make notes bleed into each other.
more fun: delay. flute.

also be sure to note the kaossilator does not midi sync. they look fun on youtube don't they?

thanks for the info. i did end up finding a video on youtube with someone soloing on the esx. this video is great.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzHBhPrxhJo - 3:20 into the video. what do you think the synth settings are on this?

and yeah the kaossilator videos look great. it's a shame they didn't make the device just a bit bigger so it could have midi in/out on it so you can sync the looping functions on it. there is always namm 2008 of course ;)

A tip for everyone here:

You can set the audio out through the audio in of the ESX-1 and play with your gate on the Audio In part.

It will actually gate the Kaosscilator(sp) and it sounds great!
