Combis in Combis?

Post by ryan42 »

I was reading somewhere about SOME synth before I decided on this one, and it may have been Oasys or Kurz that lets you do this, but can you put combination program inside combination programs somehow?

Here's my prob: I'm trying to make a combi to do the Yes song Awaken and at the end there's a HUGE pipe organ chordal part. It spans several octaves with chords on different ranks of pipes (think, "puling out all the stops") and I'm wondering if I can make the organ in a combi then just bring it into my Awaken Combi. Thanks guys.

The Only synth from Korg I know has something along those Lines is the N5/N1/N1R,where in Multimode it allows you to use a single Combination of up to 8 timbres on any the 32 tracks of Multimode,so you could in theory stack 32 combis up if you wanted the only downfall is that you soon run out of Polyphony especially after 2 or 3 average combi sounds, the N5 only has 64 note poly so its not really that benefical, plus you only have a Dual fx Processor across the 32 timbres.

Maybe the Kurzweil products perhaps have something like this,I have no knowledge of the Kurzweil gear, but you certainly can't do it on any Korg synths I've used apart from the N5,perhaps maybe the NX5R has this too seeing as it the same sort of setup in Multimode.

Well..I Oasys you don't need to put a 8 part combi inside other as you already have 16 parts available...If you need a fine adjustment of the organ you could use 9 parts for 9 stops adn the other 7 parts for the rest of your initial combi, but I'm sure you can think on some ways to libereate parts in your combi (i.e. using the same program for several stops that will increase/decrease in the same way, etc) to have even more free parts available to be used in the other parts of the song.
You could also use the KARMA Timbre Off Control to mute/unmute the groups of parts used in each part of the song just as an example...
