i just found out about the specs of KurZweil Pc3x's sequencer featuring unlimited tracks and a whopping 1000-plus resolution on their website.hope Korg will do something like that especially with their flagship Oasys!

With the risk of sounding rude, Comparing stuff thats really not more than a press release with something that been out for a couple of year is just stupid.

The Kurzweil Sequencer has and always will be superior to ANY piece of hardware on the market!! That being said, HOW much God damn resolution does one need?? Come on! Let this topic die! Yes Korg should have a better Sequencer in the O But isnt it the sounds that make an instrument!?? If we are soo bothered by the O's sequencer just get a laptop! Sure we paid a premium for our Oasys and feel we should have the best of everything but life isn't that fair. 8) Just my $.02

Got no idea about the quality of Kurzweil's sequencers. But I'm working with the O-sequ only - and I definetly want to see some improvements there in the future (WITHOUT jeopardizing its superb sound-quality). So, I'd appreciate if Korg regards this as "healthy competition".

WOW! This is a sore point with me Cuz I grew up with and litterally cried when Ensoniq Folded. YES The Ensoniq User Interface Was Absolutely the best hands Down!! And if you even try and argue that point your a complete moron!! Now, Kurzweil Is the MOST POWERFULL Hands Down!! I have used the Kurz sequencer now for about 10 years. It Is currently telling the O what and when to do it! :? BTW this is my opinion! :D

Well, at first I thought I would not write a reply, but...

I didn't bought the Oasys because the sequencer. A DAW is far more superior in many ways, and even if we get many updates, the DAW will be more superior. The Oasys is the greatest synthesizer on the earth right now, so please don't compare it with Kurzweil or Ensonic(!!) :P

Oasys rules as a synthesizer, there is no comparison. When talking sounds, it's in the same legue, or more superior than Synclavier and Fairlight and that is the kind of synths that you should compare Oasys with.

But that's my opinion :D

Yes, but the topic is about the sequencer. Nobody is comparing the sound of the Oasys is to an Ensoniq or Kurzweil.

Kurzweil stuff is great! However, from what I understand the PC3 will not sample, hence, without computer assistance, it is strictly a MIDI sequencer.

I actually prefer the OASYS "sequencer system" to stand alone Yamaha and Roland gear, simply because of the vast routing, FX and audio possibilities. Yes, I want improvements, but it is working wonderfully for me. Multi-Record and 200 (potentiall interactive, via copying) Song slots are just a couple of items that are cool. If you can get used to the vertical editing display, you're halfway there.

The fact that any of my audio intensive songs load up in seconds is something no non-hard disk keyboard can currently do.

I realize that I'm the minority opinion, but there you have my side. :D

Good question.

Sequencer Resolution (PPQQ -- Parts Per Quarter Note)
1/1536 ppq -- Kurzweil PC3X
1/480 ppq -- Korg M3
1/480 ppq -- Roland Fantom X
1/480 ppq -- Yamaha Motif XS
1/192 ppq -- Korg OASYS

How much Sequencer precision is REALLY needed?

If I understand these resolution numbers, using Korg OASYS 1/192 ppq as an example:

192 Parts Per Quarter Note
96 Parts Per Eight Note
48 Parts Per Sixteenth Note
24 Parts Per 32nd note
12 Parts Per 64th note
6 Parts Per 128th note
3 Parts Per 256th note

Unless I misunderstand Sequencer PPQ resolution, even the OASYS's low 1/192 ppq precsion provides better resolution than a 256th note. I don't even know how to score a 128th note, let alone a 256th note.

Why are users desiring even GREATER resolution than 1/192 PPQ? Can people even actually hear the difference between 1/192 ppq and 1/480 ppq at the lowest tempos?

I dunno... but the M3 having a higher resolution than the OASYS is kinda... meh.
