EXILE trailer - 100% OASYS

Post by Mike Conway »

Here's a look at the flick I've been working on, due around November.

EXILE - wmv file

or

EXILE - YouTube

The music was done in one Song slot, using the MIDI tracks. Trailers tend to need a lot more sounds than a mood specific scene (action, romantic mood, etc.) So, I managed to coax some more sounds by making a drum kit out of the Karo Granular Atmosphere sounds, which are all over this piece. I also had their Strings library loaded up and used one of the cool Jupiter programs, from the VA sound set.

If you play the first link, there is processing on the android's voice, which was also the OASYS. (Monster sounds, too.)

Sorry my friends, I don't believe is 100% OASYS sound! I recognise at the ending titles the great transwave "Genesis" sound of ENSONIQ TS-10!! I am 1000% sure about that!!!!! 8) 8)

The ending uses one of the Karo Granular Atmosphere's samples. I know the Karo guys have designed for other artists, making several references to Saga and Phil Collins in their program names.

You might want to ask Karo about the sample source. I do know that they sampled many other synths (probably also the TS-10) to make composite "granular" samples. However, this was 100% OASYS, as Granular Atmospheres was released specifically for it. I paid about $400, for Granular, so these samples had better be copyright clear. I used no other instruments.

Kurt and Oliver, I've grown quite fond of all of them. I use the Strings on everything now. Granular Atmospheres took a little getting used to, but the sounds are really quite special.

I went through the raw samples to build that drum kit, so I was surprised with some of the goodies in there. They give the trailer a nice atmospheric feel - that "extra something."

If anyone is wondering about the underlying rhythm, I used that Rain Dance vocoding example, from one of my "Vocoder to Audio" demo videos. It sounded too good not to use. The downside was that it used up 4 MIDI tracks. Totally worth it, though.
