hello one and all,
I have two Nautiluses and a brand new Kronos 3. on the nautilus and when I wanted to experiment with a program, I would write a factory default program to another bank, usually an open one under Bank P, copying it essentially, so that I can muck around with it without changing the original program. this has been very helpful for me in learning the 9 engines without messing up the originals.
as similar as the Kronos is to the Nautilus, it is also very different, especially in the interface. anyway, there are 17 extra authorized EXis that came already with the Kronos out of the box. at this factory default state, banks INT-A, -B, -C, -D, -E, -F, and GM, g(d), and then USER-A, -B, -C, -D, -E, -F, and finally, USER-AA, -BB, -CC, -DD, and -EE and all filled with programs from 0 to 127.
the only open banks are USER-G, -FF, and -GG with "Init Program" like in Bank P in the nautilus. so I guess with 3 banks open at 128 each, that leaves the Kronos having 384 open slots.
here's the problem, say I load "PRG USER-CC 006" which is "Dark Italian Grand" and try to Program, Write Program it and then attempt to click on the greater than symbol under "To Program", the three open banks of USER-G, USER-FF, and USER-GG are all grayed out and I can not write or copy that program to any one of those three open or unused banks.
so, how do I copy to the "Init Program" of any of those three banks??? or am I seeing this all wrong?
thank you in advance. Lucas

Re: Kronos 3 Program Write
The issue you’re battling with here is that Kronos has basically two types of “bank formats” – one for the HD1 sampler, and one for the EXi engines (basically all the rest of the sound engines). Your piano program is an EXi type even though it uses piano samples.
What you need to do it format the bank into an EXi type, and then you can save EXi in this bank (and only EXi).
In the parameter guide page 3, Changing the Program Bank Types.

hey BlackForest,
yes, that was it. I changed USER-G to EXi and all is good now. I didn't have to do that in the nautilus because it had many more banks open but it has the same screen to change the bank types under Global and you can only save the same program types in that bank also. I use Bank P for EXi and Bank S for HD-1.
in many ways I like the naulitus interface better than the Kronos and other ways the reverse. but they're essentially the same. I think the colors on the nautilus are more vivid and have greater contrast which gives it more pop than the Kronos.
alright, thank you, Lucas
