Hey, guys.
There's a patch in EXs18, Trumpets Velo Shake. I'm working on an arrangement where I want to use it. I could swear there was a single trumpet version with that kind of shake, but all my searching seems to prove me wrong.
This will be in a Dixieland style band with just a few instruments, so the chorusing effect used to emulate a trumpet section doesn't really work. I've poked around thinking maybe there was some modulation I could turn off to collapse it down to the sound of a single trumpet, but so far I'm coming up blank.
Full disclosure, I've spent far more time playing the Kronos than programming sounds, so apologies if this is a simple thing that any newbie should know.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to subdue the section feel of the patch to make it sound more like a single player? Love that shake, it's perfect for the song.
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Singular velo shake trumpet
That particular Program is a two oscillator HD-1 program where, judging from the name of the basic sample used (EXs18 stereo: 000025 2Tp-str-ff) it seems to consist of two trumpets, and possibly a little bit of strings mixed in with it.
If that multisample is used in a blank, single oscillator Init Program, then the two trumpets are still there, though somewhat subdued or thinned out. There seems to be no single trumpet multisample alternative available in the stock EXs libraries, nor in EXs16, from which that particular Program seems to be derived, nor indeed, in any of the Korg Expansion Libraries for the Kronos (though see below).
The best bet might be to thin the Program out by doing a couple of things:
1) removing Osc 2, or setting its level in the mix to 0.
2) in the IFX section, turning off IFX2 (Early Reflections).
3) in the MFX section, turning off Stereo BPM delay
3) altering the Stereo Limiter effect parameters.
The overall effect will be subtle, and may not be sufficient to produce the desired sound, but it'll be fun trying, at least
There are quite a few trumpet Soundfont libraries out there, which could be useful for creating your own multisample collection.
There is also a YouTube Kronos Programming Tutorial video from K-Sounds for a solo trumpet sound. It is definitely worth watching.

Based on an idea from the video, the following might also be worth trying. In the EXs18, Trumpets Velo Shake Program, go to the Osc 1 Basic tab and, for Multisample 2, select the EXs3 m library and try Multisample 00116 Trumpet 2 mf, or 00117 Trumpet 2 ff.

Great stuff, man. Thanks so much for all the ideas.
Lots of options for tweaking, will have a play to see what works.
