Outside Screen viewing issues

Post by yoshi88 »

In outside daylight, the screen is difficult to read. I found this quite a challenge in the past when using my M3 , TRITON,TRINITY keys on stage.
In the past I had to create a list for SEQUENCES , Combi & Programs that can be navigated to by KEY + number.
Are there any enhancements you can recommend to minimize the difficulties in screen viewing.

One way of helping to improve screen visibility outdoors is to make a hood out of cardboard, or similar, and gaffer taping it to the screen area. There are a few threads about this kind of approach elsewhere on the forum, and in other music fora.

Playing outside in the sunshine brings with it the problem of heat input. Solar irradiance being about 1kW per square metre, means about 500Watts would be hitting a Kronos 88 in direct sunlight, so keeping the Kronos cool becomes quite important. I find it's far better to have the keyboard under cover and in the shade, if possible, and positioned so that the light reflected off the screen is coming from a shaded place. Looking at recent Glastonbury festival videos shows some good examples of the keyboard playing locations adopted by various musical acts, during daylight performances. Most professional keyboardists tend not to use the cardboard hood method.

I have made Cardboard hoods to surround the screen and minimize the ambient light from washing out the view on the display screen. I w ill do that once again. Every effort is made to minimize the light/ heat exposure to the KRONOS from the sun. I do realize that the KRonos motherboard is susceptible to damaging heat related affects, that never were considered in previous KORG workstations.

I worry over RAM / Motherboard issues that vibration and heat can have on the KRONOS.
