Post by karmathanever »

OS update and firmware update

Check these updates carefully as the firmware is model-dependant.

So as far as I can see it adds:

KRONOS system version 3.1.0 adds functionality for a new Quick Layer/Split feature. The KRONOS Editor version 3.1 adds support for these new features.

Has anyone any idea if there is anything else?

Is there a list showing the best way to install the latest updated drivers, OS etc etc? I mean is there a recommended order.

Its easy to overlook one or two cush files IMO

Its been a while since I went through such updates.

It is kind of confusing since they don't publish any overview of the whole update procedure. They don't make it clear whether or not you need to perform two different procedures (you do).

I did the "subsystem firmware" update first, where you
1) Power up Kronos while holding down the ENTER and PAUSE buttons
2) Connect Kronos USB B port to a computer
3) Run the Kronos Updater app on the computer

Then I did the 3.1.3 "system update" where you copy the files to a flash drive and update from the menu item on Kronos' Global => Basic page

Thanks for your process.

Does the update come with the full system exclusive message documentation for this new system version ?

The only place I've ever seen this documentation is on the disks that came with the instrument. (In my case, for version 3.1.0).

I've never updated, so I don't know if this documentation comes with the update.

It does not appear to be on the Korg website.

Is there anywhere else this documentation can be found?

The updates have never contained this info. It can be found here for the Kronos X:

Thanks for letting me know that the documentation does not come with the upgrade.

The link points at documentation for :-

KORG Proprietary System Exclusive Messages For KRONOS Version 1.23 (Sep 19, 2012)

The sysex documentation which came with my Kronos (system version 3.1.0) is :-

KORG Proprietary System Exclusive Messages For KRONOS Version 1.27 (Oct 22, 2016)

According to the documentation revision history there has also been a 1.24, 1.25 and 1.26. Cannot find a copy of these on the korg website.

There does not appear to be any sysex documentation in the Kronos (without the X) download section.

Not sure about the Kronos/X but for the Kronos2 the documentation on the installation procedure is included in the .zip file you download.

For those that can't find the info, and have the latest version 3.1.2 installed,

3.1.3 is just a very small bugfix update:

Changes Since KRONOS System Version 3.1.2
Program mode
Bug fixes
Using the HD-1 Filter LFO Intensity in the Tone Adjust function might have caused
an operational error. This has now been fixed.
Disk mode
Bug fixes
The Piano Type parameter didn’t function correctly just after installing an EXs
sound library. This has now been fixed.
Saving sample data to a KMP file might have caused an operational error. This has
now been fixed.

Also, the sub-system update is meant to improve reliability of USB audio streaming.

Will be there a revised version of the sound library?
Some sounds are showing its age (like guitars, some pianos, organs and synths, strings, etc)

Also, I'd love a revised version of the UI, which a MUCH MORE intuitive, friendly OS

I am a couple of updates behind and would like to get up to date. Do these need to be done in order or can I jump right to the newest? Thanks!
