Pa4x crash....
Hi everyone, yesterday I had a traumatic experience with my pa4x...
It crashed on the half time of a gig...
I was playing a style i use often (never had any problem up to now)
and using the kbset 3 for about 3 or 4 minutes and the it happened....
Total crash- the sound I was using was sustained and the style sounded
like a spaceraft- not even the volume knobs were responding,
I had to mute on the mixer and reboot! Very embarasing...
After the gig I tried to reproduce the crash but it never happened.

Try as first a cheap PC UPS when gigging in unknown net power environment , and also be very careful with
STY files of older models (Pa800) , they often lead to system crash even if used in Direct SET mode.

What do you mean by "examples" ? source code or those custom styles ?
As you might know WavesArt also owns customers support service and I've seen all I've refered from time to time
concerning custom styles & sounds in both Pa3X & Pa4X , as frequently main issue source the Pa800 !
But this never happens with any factory or Korg released Pa800 styles , only with amateur's custom styles !

"Totally refurbished" Style could be valid if you know how to debug source code of STY or only import midi eventsBill Komotini wrote:The style i used was originaly made on my pa1x an has been totally "refurbished" on my pa4x
of style and replicate functions & FX with new OS status , else it's only for "Chinese" electronics !
The only workflow that could heal a wrong code of a recognized file , is to load it , enter and edit almost all OS existing
functions , save it (not overwrite it) in a new created SET , open this SET and load only this back to Pa4X.
This seems that eliminates Style's or PCG's element invalid/undentified code remnants of uncompatible older Pa series files ...
This is the time saving debugging of customers custom Styles & PCG that we frequently use in WavesArt service http://wavesart.eu/Hire
Hope this helps

I know how to heal things under certain symptoms and not just speculate !
I had owned all PaSeries among all Flagships of all keyboard brands , I always push them to the limits
and I never had a single issue with my resources under the deep knowledge of source code all those
stuff I use , so don't expect me to guess users issues that even Korg enginners can address them !
You want help ? follow tips else DIY ...

Assumed you meant "in general" so was keen to get an example (i.e. Korg style, not user custom)and also be very careful with STY files of older models (Pa800)
Cheers

Pete , I was clear before ... a Korg official STY file always works fine from i30 age , on those styles Pa developers
are based to determine the announced compatibility between models !
Users and amateur sound developers always indirectly ruin arrangers , that's why I always say ... do not load
undentified sound and style resources from network !

Just by curiosity, how we can identify the unidentified sound and style that are commercialized for Pa series?AntonySharmman wrote: that's why I always say ... do not load

They all advertise and assure you about the compatibility of their commercial sets.
The only official information we (users) have is from Korg company; compatibility styles "i-Series" and Pa-Series models.
I couldn't find any Trial or Demo version of the commercial pro Pa SET series's in order to test them before purchasing like we do with DAW software for example,
and no tools for us, the users, to test/debug and diagnose them before buying. So here not too much choices for the users.

Nope ... only symptoms are leading to certain actions , unfortunately I don't have the required time to searchBR wrote:how we can identify the unidentified sound and style that are commercialized for Pa series?
issues in source code mainly because this doesn't concern my resources.

I agree with Antony on his first reply. Power glitches are the first place to look especially if something has been working OK for a long time. A small UPS is always good whether or not you have or are having problems. I don't think power in the USA is really any better or worse than anywhere else and I would not plug my expensive gear into an outlet without checking it with a tester to see if it is wired correctly and a UPS to take care of glitches, brown outs, and black outs.
Everybody seems to automatically blames the Pa4X for their crashes. Like Pete said, the Pa4X is a total revamp of the OS and the old styles are not completely compatible and this is expected. But it seems very few ever think that it could be an issue with the power at the wall.

The style was originaly created on pa1x from scratch using only factory sounds. Then loaded on pa4, twicked and some parts made from scratch
using only with factory sounds.
Either way, the specifications provided from KORG for a 4000 keyboard has no limitation in style compatibility on any older model.
So i think there is a bug somewere ...
