Loading PA4X set onto pa3x possible?

Post by kurdino »

Hi,
I just got my hands on a brand new Pa4x set but when I try to upload it onto my pa3x I get error messages that all files were not uploaded. After checking: none of my current styles have changed and none of the new styles have been uploaded. Under User; drum/sounds have been uploaded but actual samples/pcm files have not.

When I try to upload the new styles one by one manually. I get the "not a pa file" error

In other words uploading a Pa4x set onto a pa3x was not successful.

HELP?

No, not possible - Korg arrangers have never been "forwards compatible" but you can load styles from ALL previous Korg arrangers.

Cheers

So what option do I have at this stage? What can I do to make it work?

Frankly... is only one way, .... upgrade to Pa4x.
... or for Styles: try to extract SMF with markers on Pa4x, import to Pa3x and try to make work.
For Sounds is pointless, Pa4x sounds is base on bigger, better Samples library.

SO I UPGRADED since I couldn't find anything anywhere on the subject. Possibly in the near future KORG PA MANAGER may allow conversion of pa4x set to pa3x but as of today there is none.

I seriously doubt that much will be produced to convert to earlier models - this has been the case since the first Korg arranger (i2)
I suppose someone, somewhere might create some software to do it.

KORG PA MANAGER already has limited PA4X functionality so I also doubt reverse conversion would be high on their agenda, if at all - but stranger things have happened.

I don't think ever will be possible.
Is too much differences between Pa3x and Pa4x.
In Pa4x Korg developers did a lot of changing, style structure is different, only what stay same is midi style tracks, which can be extracted from Pa4x and loaded to Pa3x, but Pa4x Style hold lot more data, which is not even possible in Pa3x.
BTW, I wrote already before what making Pa4x better, is way better, bigger Samples Library and the way sounds can be routed.
No way any converter can successful clone this!
Factory Resources
Pa3x --> 819 Multisamples + 1597 Drum Samples
Pa4x --> 1425 Multisamples + 3247 Drum Samples

if you have a pa4x try to a&b the sounds and efx export midi files import on the 3x and work together with the 4x its not going to be the same but you will hear the idea what you want to hear and if its only 1 or 2 sounds you are missing you can sample it i tried to work that way before i got my 4x but it did not sound the same becose it was build on different efx and ways than the 3x so i upgrade it but if the things you are looking for is something you can have on the 3x but its just in a format from the 4x you will be able to do it that way and samples you can export as kpm from the 4x and load it on the 3x i hope this will help you

ok , i just can't hold back anymore ...everytime I read where someone is asking about having a 3x ,wanting sounds/styles from the 4x , and someone will always goes " upgrade is the only way 'cold & blunt .. that always burns my butt ...let me explain ..i understand the whole technology aspect of it ,new machine vs older machine , older machine doesn't have the new technology ... got it understand it ...but when someone says "UPGRADE " so easily , are they not considering the $$$$ factor ... let me explain my situation ,now that I am riled up ..I've worked my way up from a pa 50 to pa800 to a 3x ...the pa800 I had for a dozen years ,,just a great machine but yes I finally realized its just time ...spent months going back & forth over 3x or 900..everyone said the same them , if you got the bucks . its well worth it ...well , being a senior citizen & on a fixed income I , figured what the heck the last one lasted me a long time .... so I bought one .its every thing I've could ever dream of , fabulous machine ... it has everything I need ...so what to you think my reaction was when everyone started talking about the 4x that might be coming out .. i thought as long as they keep posting styles /sound for the 3x ,I don't care ,my machine works for me ..well the 3x stuff stopped & the 4x is not capable ...so now you say after spending thousand ,i should UPGRADE ...some of us are just not in the financial situation ..luckily I love my machine & have found programers to come up with new styles for me ...,my luck would be , i'd spring for the 4x & the 5x would be right around the corner ... so all i am saying is have a little feeling for us struggling musicians ( playing for 5 decades )when they ask questions ...sometimes upgrades might be the only way but some of us just don't have the bucks .just my 2 cents

Hi Al
Don't get riled up my friend.
Nemik's comment about "upgrading" was said lightheartedly - it would be obvious that buying a PA4X would solve the problem of wanting PA4X styles and it was to emphasise that it is NOT easy otherwise.
Of course most of us cannot afford to own lots of gear.

I would like the PA4X to have the unique styles from the PA1X, PA2X, PA3X and PA588 and PA800 too - I can load these still though.
If Korg came up with some software to convert their styles in a backward direction, then the problem could be solved - can't imagine that will ever happen - wouldn't be a smart marketing move either.
As we already know, PA4X style structures are not the same as PA3X, PA2X etc..etc..

Of course we can all interpret written comments differently as they are void of any visible & audible emotion, so please don't take Nemik's comment as an intention to upset or be sarcastic - it wasn't meant like that if you read it in context with his surrounding and following helpful comments....

Ever changing technology will drive us all into poverty eh?

Take care

sorry , didn't mean to come across as a hard ass cause I'm not ...& yes his comment wasn't really as bad as I made it sound ...i guess I'm more pissed at Korg for not continuing making styles for the 3x ...well , maybe down the road i will save my pennies (lol $$$) and invest it a new korg pa5x lol ...I should be use to this anyway , my first synth was a Roland juno 6 ,non programable ,well low & behold ,a few months later they came out with the juno 60 programable ... its hard to live & learn when you want to stay up with technology .. but thanks for your reply , it will get me to think a little before I react .. I really enjoy this site & it has been extremely useful to me as an arranger owner because of the willingness of the many members to reach out & help ... thanks

Note that Pa4X styles are by 85% styles of pa3X factory styles plus Pa3X/Le bonus styles , that are adapted
and arranged in Pa4X new sound libraries & DKs so what you hear in Pa4X is the result of new bigger and
better Pa4X factory library , has nothing to do with no newer technology or features (pa3X has more)!
Therefore if you ever manage to strictly reproduce a Pa4X style in Pa3X , in the best occasion this will sound
just like the one you already have in your Pa3X !
As a Pa resources developer , I work with both simultaneously and I confirm that it's absolutely a waste of
time for older models owners to search for newer Pa model's styles , when actually Pa4X makes them sound
better , so if you like them either buy Pa4X nor use better Pa3X custom sound resources ...
