Curious Question How Many Have Come to the Pa4x from Tyros

Post by stephenm52 »

Curious, how many have sold their Tyros keyboard to move to the Pa4x?

I did and am very happy with the Pa4x, I don't miss the Tyros5-76 at all.

I did. The T5 just wasn't cutting it playing live for me. Particularly the drums; I became nauseous of the snare sounds and the cheeky tambourine sounds on all the styles. I do miss some of my favorite sounds from the T5 like the Pedal Steel Guitar, Church Organs (I do wedding ceremony music), some of the Saxes, and the ensemble feature.

I deplored some of the Organs. The default Leslie sounds using the mod wheel was just horrible going from slow to fast abruptly and sounding more like a machine gun vibrato than a leslie simulator.

And lastly, and the killer for me was the MusicFiinder. In 5 generations, Yamaha did not listen nor care about features and enhancements requested by customers. Even after requesting and filling out Product Surveys for each generation, they made no positive changes.

Korg, on the other hand, listens and reacts. The Pa4x is a wonderful evolution. It is really geared more towards the live performer than the home player in terms of live sound and customization.

I just wish Korg would really bulk up their Pa4x Premium style offerings like Yamaha does with their MusicSoft store.

I thought long & hard about it, but decided to go with the Pa4x. I have to admit that the Yamaha people really go all out to make their demo's quite amazing. In the end, it was a better price for the Pa4x that won me over.

Hi

I have been Yamaha user since early 80's starting with the PSR series. I recently bought the T4 then upgraded to T5. I want something different so I got the PA4x while keeping my T5. I really have difficulty with Korg's OS because each is so different. I was about to return the Korg but I decide to give it couple weeks more. Regarding style play, Tyros is really simple. Go to the USB folder and try as many styles as you want. In the PA4X as I found out, you have to load then unload which is a pain the butt. The styles of the Korg don't go well with my style of music (ballades, movies and shows...) so I am not sure if I end up keeping the Korg. Dai

Why didn't you sample the churchorgan sound before changing to the PA4?
You could have the best of 2 worlds.

Although you miss your Movie & Show styles from the s950, there are some good ones on the Pa4x. I'm of the mindset that the perfect arranger would be called a YaKorgKetron...........even at that some would find things wrong with it.

There is a learning curve with Korg when making the move from Yamaha, but once you learn Korg OS you'll know the "how to" of the Pa4x.

You can program any one of the "Assignable Switches" to control the Leslie.

On a T5 there are more possibilities to switch a leslie.
You can use the DSP & variation buttons, or the Modulationwheel.
In organworld you can use the switches on the side of the screen.
It is indeed a matter of reading the manuals,
on the PA2 that I had I could use the programmable switches or the joystick, but sometimes you
had to program them yourself because Korg didn't do that and so did Yamaha.
And I liked the PA2 because it took less place then the T5-76 so I'm condemned to a 61. :D
Perhaps in the future I will chose for Korg again when/if they have a better "organworld"

J'ai réussi à programmer le switche pour controler leslie, mais impossible de mettre leslie sur jimmy organ ? c'est normal ou c'est un bug?

I agree with you. I have both of them and Tyros5 IMO much better. Sounds on T5 more realistic and I like very much the way how recording works on T5

Good point! However, everytime I try to create a decent multi-sample, it never really sounds or plays like the original. I've done it with synth sounds and specialty sounds like the Intro to Uptown Funk, but instruments take a special kind of assembly to get right.

Have you tried the Direct Style function? It should be very similar to what you did with the Tyros.

I have moved from Tyros 5 to Pa4X. Its the first Korg I have owned a bit of a learning curve having mostly used Yamaha, Tyros 1, Tyros 4 & 5 but fancied a change.
I thought long and hard about making the change but personally I think the Pa4X is fantastic the more I play it the more I want to play it, I haven't missed the Tyros 5 at all.
I initially had both but decided to sell the Tyros as it was sitting there gathering dust.
The Tyros 5 is great but the Pa4X is so much better.

Just to add to the discussions regarding the Direct Style function, yes it is very similar but the ability to read and use anything that is on a USB Drive is something that I am missing from Yamaha. On Yamaha you insert your USB memory stick tab across to the USB selection choose what you want to use, be it Styles, Registrations, Pads etc and play,.... no loading or creating a Direct Set. That is the only feature that I miss.....

Cheers
