Yamaha doesn't make their own guitars or basses, Samick actually makes them and puts a Yamaha logo on them. I also don't like Yamaha motorcycles. Their keyboards are OK and if Korg didn't exist, I'd probably go Yamaha. Unfortunately for Yamaha, Korg DOES exist and until makes a product I like better than Korg, I'll probably never own one.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).

I think Korg, should be a little careful, Yamaha & Roland have been dormant for some years now.
Any company that is dormant, probably means they have something up their sleeve.
Just look at how long after the discontinuation of the Oasys, that Korg didn't really come up with anything, then all of a sudden - Kronos hits Namm.

Undoubtedly Roland is watching the evolution of the Oasys and biding time and developing something to compete, so at some time in the future, their launch of a new product will be a direct competition to Kronos.

However, the workstation concept was initiated by Korg, so perhaps Yamaha & Roland are leaving this area and focusing on something else.

Above post is pure speculation!

I personally believe they ran out of ideas and are just resting on their old ideas with minor MINOR updates. Roland hasn't done anything exciting or good sounding since the D-50 and everything since then sounds very thin. Yamaha had a solid workstation with the Motif but GEESH, how about something new? Korg at least tries all sorts of different things - M3, RADIAS, Electribe, etc. and they don't overcharge for them. The price of the V-Piano is ridiculous and how many V-Accordions could they possibly be selling?

Yah, I'm not worried about Yamaha or especially Roland sneaking in to the game any time soon.

roland has lost it...

The v synth Gt was its last inovative product, i love how the diverse synthesis engines inetract with eachother, .. I allways hoped that korg would have added some if this ineractive modular approach to Kronos.

Director of Roland benelux told me not to expect any top models in the near and somewhat distant future, Roland is not putting any money in the development of new synthesis , to much development costs for to small profit margins.. They lost money on their latest fantom.....and other topline products...

roland concentrates on digitall pianos and guitar stuff...

I had Motif ES rack once... It was a very satisfying machine. With curiosity and lots of hope I've been watching XS and XF announcements. Unfortunately they both were a bit underwhelming. Jump from original Motif to ES was substantial. More PCM rom, multiple effects instances, more polyphony. But from ES... things hadn't been pushed that much.

Not that I don't desire Motif anymore. However a HW workstation isn't a cheap toy, which can be bought at whim. Kronos is... much more attractive.

.."What if they designed a specification/interface like the VSTi spec, but one that allow third parties to add sound engines...”

YAMAHA still working in this technology, started in 2008, you will see the next Yamaha Workstation doing this and more, the rumors:
is working hand by hand with Spectrasonics to included in this new beast all the Omnisphere engine (with 8000 sounds),same as RMX (will read REX2) and Trilian as part of the engine in the next Synth, and you will be able to load and run FX VST’s like, Waves, Focus, etc all in realtime but with a warm polish sound .Still a Pure Yamaha headquad secret until Kronos release this springtime.H’to wait. BE READY KORG.

Ya know, when you post in the OASYS sub-forum, the post is supposed to be about the OASYS. Not your "God, I hope I can convince all these people that the 12 year old Motif is actually relevant" Yamaha.

Seriously, it's not that you're defending the Motif (in an ALL Korg forum mind you) like a fanboy, you're defending it like you're the CEO of YAMAHA and you DESPERATELY need to get someone to buy your crap or you'll go out of business. You look pitiful and desperate.

+1

I've never read so much about Yamaha Motif keyboards as much as I've been reading on Korg forums since the Kronos's release.
Amazing really and are they discussing the Kronos/Oasys on the Yamaha's forum pages?

Or are they all sitting in their Yamaha forum in a circle going nowhere, like the Motif itself?

Is this what Korg meant by "game changer" in that Korg Forums would be spammed by all these Yamaha freakazoids?

I don't know if that's true, some people stay mum because they are sleeping or dying.

but Kronos was heard of only on Jan 6th 2011,

and was not serioulsy rumored about until... jan 6th 2011
.

Up to november 2010 there was MINIMAL discussion, among Korg users, about the IMMINENT release of a new workstation (proof: when Kronos was "teased", nobody had the faintest idea if it was a workstation or a kaoss padd or an analogue semimodular. 80 pages of wild guesses in this forumwitness that).

So, one thing we know for sure:

the Japs can keep their mouth shut. All of them, I presume, not just Korg

Haha, sleeping or dying!
Yeah, you're right, in "this" business, it seems some people can keep a lid on!

If it was Microsoft Windows vers. XX (just 2 X's, not 3 - because I dont want to offend Akos)
then the forum world would know everything there is to know before the official release.
We'd even get the opportunity to go "find" a nice little rapidshare download of a pre-release beta version too.

Would have been nice to have found a torrent on "Korg Oasys OS 2.00 BETA" somewhere...........

Anyone here know what XA means on the Motif XS, or what XS means to the Motif XF?

I was 99.99% positive it was anything BUT a synth or a workstation. And had someone whispered to me early that it was a new workstation, I'd have been positive I had no interest in buying one.

And here we are just a little while later and I have a new workstation on pre-order. I've NEVER pre-ordered a musical instrument.

Late April can't come fast enough...
