What I had to do to learn midi from my akaiMPD16's slider was press F10 to go into the midi setup screen, make sure it was shown there and select it and there was a check box to enable midi input (this was unchecked by default), then midi learn worked fine. when checking the enable box, my midi device in the input list went from greyed out to black and said ACTIVE next to it.
this is relevant no matter the interface, if you have multiple ports you have to activate EACH port you wish to use.
Also, as I stated in my original reply, and have confirmed now, some controls use NRPN's, and FL studio's midi learn will not recognize them. another you need to know is that each part on the EMX1 will cause the knobs to transmit different midi messages. the drum parts all use NRPN's and only knobs that actually do something to the drum sounds will transmit anything. the 5 synth parts use CC's Each part uses the same CC's for it's corresponding knob, but on a different midi channel (1-5) by default.
So for this to work, you must select a synth part and the do the midi learn. if you change parts, that knob will now be transmitting on a different channel and will not control the parameter you learned until you switch back to the original part. so really the EMX1 has 5 banks of knobs you can use. hope this helps.
A useful program you should probably have is MIDI-OX

This will let you look at the messages coming in from your synths. It is how I confirmed the info above.
If you still can't get it to work, there must be something wrong with your setup. Actually the emx has midi filtering, maybe you should check that it is allowing the cc's to be sent out. You'll need to consult the manual for that one though.
