Left Hand - High Side #4 Sound - Comp - Sustaining When It Should Not

Post by taki »

I will try to explain this as best as I can... What I wanted to have done, like is done on the PA4X, when I hold the chord with the left hand to have the arranger play the chord while the style is playing, I want to have the strings sound playing with the left hand as long as I hold down the left hand notes.

To do this, I unmuted the #4 upper sound, like we do in the PA4X to have the left hand play whatever sound is there - in general is a strings sound...

When I did this, now after I play for a few measures and changes chords with a style, that strings comp left hand sound stays sustained even after letting go the notes and even after the style stops playing... the only way to stop it is to power reset the keyboard or mute the sound manually.

Is this a known issue? Is there something I am doing incorrectly?

Thanks,

Takis

What is the OS Version you are using? If you are using 1.3.1 then it definitely looks like a bug in the OS.

Yes, I am using this version 1.3.1... That is what I thought too... I am surprised no one found this issue yet on this site - at least I could not find it.

Well, V 1.4 is our, I will update soon and see if this was fixed. I will let everyone know.

Thanks for the feedback!

I installed OS v 1.4 and I quickly checed the issue with the default sound/style..

1) I went to mix to unmute the 4th upper hand sond for it to play the default string sound for the left hand when holding the chords .. and it plays/sounds as expected.....

2) I only did it for 2 styhles... it worked for both

3) Seems that this update fixed the bug...

Commentary:

I have owned this PA5X for 3 years now... I bought it when it was first on the market... I unfortunately have not used it as much due to all these glitches.. sound set formats being different from PA4X to PA5X... I am happy with the board now.. but it took too long to get things fixed, thus almost selling it a couple of years ago due to all the glitches... I am still using the PA4X I have 90% of the time... for live performances... With this stated, I hope Korg updates these glitches more frequently.. but most important, I will never buy a new PAX6 as soon as it is sold by Korg... Their integrity and faith on their software working correctly right off the bat, for the 4-5K amount you pay, is not worth the time to debug.. the time of frustration of waiting... and for the money too... If it was 2K new, then I can understand trying to get to market quicker.. but for the price we are paying, I have lost faith.. at least for the Arranger market... I also am a firmware/software engineer for 30 years, and the PAs really are computers in general with some FPGA firmware integration.. I realize the design work involved, but if I created a product like this for my company, I would be fired. I hope the type of engineers they get and their management is better along their marketers.. especially with AI technology coming out too in the future.. it will change the keyboard arranger functionality tremendously for the better.. but if the software has glitches, especially when you are a live one man band performer, this will make me not buy Korg arranger technology in the future.. I hope this free consulting gets heard by Korg and their management. Taki

Yes, I agree, and at present, with no replacement for the PA 700/1000, you do wonder if the PA5X is the last of its kind from Korg?

The sad part for me is that I am still to believe and have to acknowledge that Korg's internal affairs still present certain challenges for themselves and end users; unfortunately, the pace will inevitably continue to be slow, and many issues and bugs will most probably never be addressed, and that's not the programmers' fault (stabilize first and perfect the core system, then gradually add the extra features) but a managerial one, which will most probably (if nothing changes at Korg) continue to be evident as time progresses...

And lastly, I do sincerely hope to be wrong, as that will make me and a lot of fair-minded customers happier. Time will tell, of course, but I will not be surprised if a PA6X does not materialize.
