there is a function "Bass&Lower Backing" assignable to the assignable switches (or EC5-Pedal), best suited for explaining their volume settings:
When the Style is not playing and the keyboard is in Split mode, you can play the "Lower Sound" with your left hand, while the "Bass" still plays the chord root.
Lower Sound is part of Keyboard-Settings (Realtime-Sounds) and Bass is part of a Style-Setting (Background-Sounds).
Volume of Lower Sound is set with "Lower" - the 1th slider of realtime sounds. Volume of Bass is set with "Bass" - the 3rd slider of background sounds you get with "Track select" of styles.
*
If playing a simple manual accompaniment (Bass & Lower Backing), where the chord you play with your left hand is split between the Bass (chord root) and Lower (the remaining notes) Sounds, you should be shure, that Bass & Lower Backing function is active.
When it is active, the "Backing" icon appears in the Lower Sound’s area.
If the icon "Backing" does not appear, then activate it with select of "Bass & Lower Backing" checkbox in Global > Mode Preferences > Style 2 page.
Play a chord sequence with your left hand with SPLIT indicator is turned on, and the automatic accompaniment is not running and you will notice how the chord root is played by the Bass Sound, while the remaining chord notes are played by the Lower Sound (even if it is muted).
Volume of Bass depends on slider "Bass" of a style tracks setting.

PS: Also important with style tracks setting - adjusting the (global) Accompaniment groups volume.
That is not meant to change when you select a different Style but will avoid abrupt changes in the volume level of the Accompaniment Sounds during a performance.
Again in Global > Mode Preferences > Style 2 page you will find the settings of Style Volume section with the mixer group channels of DR/PERC, ACCOMP (Acc1-5) and BASS. The volume offset of that virtual volume slider I recommend with a level of 100.
kind regards
