Samplesl Not Loaded - Huh?

Post by Jamist »

Hi,

I'm not asking the obvious question, I promise. :D

I'm trying to put together some PCG files that I can use to overlay all the banks to contain the factory stuff, plus a subset of 3rd party stuff that I happen to want at the moment.

So, for example, I've created one that has the Epic Composer Series (FF and GG), and the Grand Epic Choir (EE).

That's all working fine. But what I can't understand is that when I go into bank USR-G and USR-EE , there's a "samples not loaded" message - and it's referring to samples that have nothing to do with what's loaded anywhere on the Kronos at the moment. (In fact, USR-G is empty.)

I've used PCG Tools to scan through all the libraries, and I can't figure out why the Kronos thinks it needs to load these samples. No combi's are referencing those libraries, and there's no old Wave Sequences lying around.

Any idea why this is happening? I guess it's not hurting anything, but it's bothering me.

And yes - the samples it thinks it wants to load are for libraries that used to reside in the libraries that are currently generating the message.

hard to see what happened from here.

User G was an open bank. You likely installed/loaded an EXs here, originally.

If User G is empty, that tells you the Programs got removed. Likely there was an EXs tied to that. A clue might be in Global/KSC auto load. You might be loading the KSC but that's not enough- you have to load the Program/PCG data.

If you are backing up your work properly, its simple to review that prior PCG
file and see what's in User G

User EE is also reserved for Exi programs. on my 2011 K , its empty.

Same step, look at your prior PCG file and look for User EE Programs.

Hi there,

Could be one of several causes, including a code 18. 8) Remember also that in HD-1 mode, on top of all the samples defined in the OSC lists, each program points to a drum track program. You might need to change them accordingly if you moved them during your PCG update. DOn't worry if you find this all confusing at first, it is indeed tricky.

No kidding!

I'm working on it. I'm still trying to understand why there are "User" banks with stuff in them that need to be there for some 3rd-party libraries to work properly. If they've got stuff in them that needs to be there, why call them "User" banks in the first place??

And almost every dang library wants to install in User-G; but putting them someplace else requires... I don't know what it requires, but it's certainly something I ain't got at the moment!! :D

that was answered on another active topic:

Before proceeding did you BACK UP your existing data, by creating a new PCG file ?

Ok. Jumping ahead. Its Important to read the EXs install directions slowly and carefully.

Its a little subtle, but you can select an open Program bank for your new Drum Programs DURING the Load process

I don't have your EX install instructions- typically on page 7 or 8, titled " Loading the New Sounds and Samples " is what you need to read carefully.
There are 10 steps to thi
s.

Going further back , you have to have sufficient memory to load the new EXs.

This is a basic requirement.

If you do not have sufficient memory for loading , a red warning would be visible , such as " memory required, memory available.

Hi there,

Take your time to read the corresponding sections in the manuals. The Korg Kronos architecture is particular and it's very important to gradually master it by practicing. That's the best school and soon you will realize it's not that complicated after all.

To make a very long story short, here are the main steps for any third party library.

1) In Disk mode, install the EXs samples. Many libraries have a dedicated exsins file for this. Otherwise, there is another method.

2) Still in Disk mode, install the PCG (programs/combis/global) contents. To install (for example) programs anywhere you want instead of the defined bank, do NOT click the first Load button and instead click on Open and then select what you want to install and where. The farther you "open" the PCG file before installing, the more precise/small you can go, up to a single prog or combi if needed. Note that you can even play each program in a PCG after installing the samples in 1) to make sure you like it or not.

3) Once you installed what you like, add the KSC file (sample collection) in Global mode so that it's always available when you start your Kronos.
