Re-saving songs (and automatic user bank creation)

Post by yawnthepost »

I've experienced problems saving songs containing samples for years, and can't get to the bottom of it. (The samples often disappear). However, I've recently noticed that when I work with samples in sequencer mode, and resave that song to disk, the Korg automatically creates a new folder.

A bit of information: when I work, my samples are put into multisamples, then converted into programs to be used in sequences/songs.

I realise there seems to be a problem resaving songs after edits have been made to samples/multisamples.

This seems to be at the core of the problem: if the song is called, for example,TUNE, on initial 'save all' there will be five folders, but on subsequent resaves a sixth folder is created which the Kronos names 'TUNE_User Bank.KSC'

When I try to load all these files (as I did just then) this is what happens (and it is bizarre):

1. If I try and load all files the Kronos tells me there is 'no readable data'.
2. I load all files except the automatically created TUNE_UserBank.KSC and the song appears, but no samples.
3. I reload just the .KSC files (including the newly created one) the samples load, but not the program I converted the multisamples into - once these are recreated all is well.

But this a long time and is frustrating.

What is the Kronos doing?

Any help appreciated.

When making multisamples and saving them as programs, you need to reload those samples back in, usually at powerup. This is done in Global. The sample created with "user" in the name is the streaming version of the sample. This is the one you want to setup in Global auto-load.

If you insert audio files into a sequence like a loop or backing track this is not the same as above. Those audio files are using the audio tracks of the sequencer and are saved with the sequence. They will stream off the SSD without having to auto-load anything other than the song.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried various permutations using autoload at power up, but without success.

If I manually load all files for a song except the KSC files, then load these separately, the samples and multisamples are loaded, but not the program to which they were converted. I can do this again easily, but it makes the process a bit laborious.

If possible could you explain two things to me?

1. When you describe the user_bank.ksc file as for 'streaming' does that mean it is only used for working memory and not for saving? Is the purpose of this folder described somewhere in the manual or online?

2. Am I missing a way of loading samples/multisamples on the Global page? - presently I do all this via autoload.

Again, thanks for your help.
