Limiter Settings ?

Post by advid »

....I'm set to BRICK WALL - ON....

Is this the best for 'safetys' sake ?...
OR can someone explain if it is really necessary to use the limiter at all...
Is the overall signal cleaner/clearer when not used ?
Have read through the manual but can't really understand what all the settings mean or actually do....

I think the OMAP CPU/DSP hardware chip on Pa3xLe same as Pa900 and Pa600 is to weak overloading very easy when the voice harmonizer and mp3 recording are in use. At the same time the mp3 software module (CODEC) don´t shines at all in quality. I have recorded an audio example about the issue on Pa3xLe to give an idea what I'm talking.

Notice on the chorus part when the harmonies on vocal processing are "on" how easily the CPU/DSP overloads using at the same time the mp3 recording function on Pa3XLe. Unfortunately a faster OMAP CPU/DSP chip is the only way to avoid issues on recording (limiter function ???) on Pa3xLe. For the echo I use an external effects processor but the recording issue exposed here denotes the lack of enough raw CPU/DSP processing when all the features are enabled on Pa3xLe,

To avoid issues on recordings a multi-track audio interface connected on line outs replacing in this way the MP3 recording function would provide more CPU/DSP signal processing headroom avoiding digital signal bus overload. Disabling at the same time the "lead voice part" on harmonizer would help. For a superb voice quality the lead part is recorded directly form the audio interface in separated tracks (L/R) mic setup. Using a 4 channels audio interface like the Alesis IO14 would be enough.

I will try that to see what happens.

...thanks for all that info...

No dis-respect to you but all that might sort your 'problems' out but doesn't really answer my original question.....

I answer the question about the limiter settings on Pa3xLe which are confusing. The video shows the main problem regarding MP3 recording leveling if the internal digital bus on the OMAP CPU/DSP processor overloads meaning that the digital limiter settings on menu actually doesn't works.

My recommendation is to use an external audio interface and software tools for recordings to avoid CPU/DSP overloads on Pa3xLe/Pa900 disabling the MP3 recording. Unfortunately the OMAP processor on Pa3xLe/Pa900 is a bit slow running all the functions together. Disabling some of them increase the CPU/DSP processing headroom leading to a better audio quality with more polyphony.
