Korg PaSeries compression is not lossless !!!
I'll be in unpleasant position to confirm that KorgPa Series compression audio format is not lossless ...
This compression algorithm seems that is also used in all paSeries factory resources up to Pa3X
(and all older Korg models like M3/Triton ect)
From Pa600 and then, factory PCM are not compressed anymore but Pa4X user samples compression
uses this lossy audio format !
Watch the following evidence video after my research on this issue ...

AntonyShermman,
Thanks for your deep research and conclusion.
Actually this is the Korg developer's job before releasing the keyboard in the market and they should take care seriously of
this problem and others for such a professional and expensive keyboard.
By the way there was a report/video about the same sample noise issue (not sure if it's related with your research) but anyway

It's irrelevant and not an actual Pa4X issue there ...
The problem is that he had loaded compressed samples from Pa3X SET while in OS v.1.1 and the
decompression algorithm is different in OS v.1.2 so those samples will not work properly anymore ,
so he just has to reload Pa3X SET and problem will be solved ! (let him know)

Perhaps this topic has something to do also with what I wrote here http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpbb2/ ... p?t=104336

Pa4X has a 24 bit DAC (downgraded to 16 bit when importing), so sound is definitely clearer and more detailed compared to Pa3XAmbro wrote:Perhaps this topic has something to do also with what I wrote here http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpbb2/ ... p?t=104336
in sampling mode input and at main outputs I use for recording and benchmarks.
(I have never investigated mp3 recordings since by definition I hate mp3 sound format ).
Even the exact same factory PCM sounds are brighter in Pa4X since factory library is not compressed as in Pa3X ...
This could be the best ever option for everyone , since compression seems to be the only serious sound issue in Pa4X ,Bachus wrote:They can take this problem out of the world for pa4x by adding sample streaming for user samples...
I'm sure that KorgPa developers are aware of it , that's why they delayed to provide it in Pa4X OS as they never used
it in Pa600/900/Le although they could , hence source code exists in all of them !
Therefore comes reasonably concluded that if your custom samples were compressed by any of Pa3X/Pa4X, they are
downgraded to a loosy sound format and must be loaded from scratch in Pa4X without compression and the valued Ram
size is still 400 Mb for demanding users that want their samples to preserve the required clarity as Pa4X factory resources !

Pa-Series compression - Pa900
Hello Anthony,AntonySharmman wrote:.. Pa4X has a 24 bit DAC (downgraded to 16 bit when importing), so sound is definitely clearer ..
what is inside of Pa900 i would like do know, as for me seems to be also Pa900 uses an 24bit DAC (downgraded to 16bit for importing). That is because some of its factory sounds are like Pa4x but at least quite comparable to quality of Pa3X sounds.
Also with Pa900-samples it does not seem to be possible to produce user sounds as clear and detailled compared with Pa900-Factory-Sounds.
kind regards

I haven't disassembled a Pa900 to be 100% sure but it obviously has almost equal hardware with pa4X as also pa3XLe ,
so factory samples are not compressed like in models up to Pa3X and always imported custom samples will be
downgraded to 16 Bit compared to factory resources , but also note that the difference can't be noticeable with bared ears
but also note that the difference can't be noticeable with bared ears (while in custom samples compression it will be) !
