Service Manuals for Pa4X ?
Just wondering if there are any Service Manuals available for the PA4X ? I've done several searches that have come up empty. I'm certainly willing to pay for the official Korg manual. Does Korg Italy sell them?

In the UK that would be seen as Restrictive Practice ! Over the years I have bought service manuals from Roland, Yamaha plus several other companies
how is Korg different ?

I tried to get for Pa600 and this is what they told me.
Also I call few technicians, but they said same thing.

Any manufacturer has the right to protect it's technical service proprietary information - I guess Korg have chosen to do that BUT I WOULD LIKE A MIDI IMPLEMENTATION manual (PLEASE).In the UK that would be seen as Restrictive Practice ! Pete not sure what the law is in Aus but here in Europe and the UK there are European Competition Laws which have been legislated to prevent manufacturers from withholding service and technical information from independent service and repair companies, by withholding this type of information a manufacturer is then deemed to be operating restrictive practice and on that basis I don't happen to think that Korg can withhold a service manual. Certainly the fact that your average Joe will not be able to repair something like a Modern Synth but for independent electronics repair and service companies they would need up to date Technical Information to assist with the work that they do and may be charging a lesser rate than the manufacturers own service which as I understand it the likes of Yamaha & Korg now farm out anyway. Gone are the days when you could call up the manufacturer and speak with the actual techs working on your equipment and who knew the products best.

I believe the law here only jumps in if a manufacturer does not facilitate service/repair for goods - hence service/repair agents must exist and be available.
Nowhere does it insist that anyone should be able to obtain proprietary technical company details.
But it is similar to UK in that the information must be available but restricted to trained service electricians.
I can't speak for Korg, but a supplier could void warranty if "self-servicing" was executed and hence such documentation could be classed as dangerous in the wrong hands.
The law is more likely to step in against a supplier for releasing documents to the public that could be considered "dangerous" (definitely related to electrical goods) - see the disclaimers at the front of the PA4X.
The laws now are beyond ridiculous - "you should not play your PA4X whilst in the bath" - yeah joking but it is almost that pedantic - you can be darn sure that if someone actually did that and suffered the law would probably say that the disclaimers were inadequate.
We are covered here in Aus beyond warranty if the problem/failure/fault was considered to exist within an unreasonable time since purchase.
Example - if you buy a $1000 coffee machine with 12 month warranty and its boiler fails after say, 18 months then you have a case to get it repaired/replaced despite the manufacturer's written warranty.
Whoops - rambling on - sorry
Pete

I didn't realize that I was poking a small hornet's nest when I asked the question.
In the USA, the ability to get Korg service manuals hasn't been difficult in the past, but that has been for products produced in the USA. I have both of the original Korg service manuals for the Oasys, as an example.
There are businesses that are devoted to service manuals of many brands here in the US and are easily reached by searching on-line for them. Everything from cars to musical instruments.
I suspect they get service manuals for products that are mostly out of production or do not have dedicated service facilities, but then again I haven't studied it either.
I know I did see lots of entries for Pa 3x Pa 2X units when searching for the Pa 4X but didn't take the time to see what they were about, meaning if they were actual manufacturers manuals

Bought a Triton Extreme Service manual, and it was mediocre...nothing like what I expected of a "Service Manual".
This is what it had:
Circuit Diagram, Structural Diagram (pretty pictures of keyboard measurements), Test Mode info, and Parts List (of hundreds of items with cryptic names). And that's it.
Where's the actual information on taking apart a keyboard to fix a keybed problem, or joystick issue, any other issue? The hundreds of parts listed... where do they go..how do they fit together...no blowup pictures.
Maybe there are some other "Service Manuals" that Korg publishes? Unless you are to solder something...it is pretty much useless.

In general, I have a similar expectation that you have, but then again when I was in the Navy on a Nuclear Sub, it usually took 2 men to lift our manuals.
(Just kidding of course, but they were huge). You can't call home to the office when in the middle of a nuclear war.

Pa4x - Service manual, Midi Implementation, SMF-Header
I do not understand if I can get servicemanuals from Korgs Kronos, Pa800, Pa500 etc or Yamahas Tyros, why not from Pa4x.Nemik wrote:Only Korg Authorized Service Center can get it, Nobody else.
This is really a restrictive practice if Korg Authorized Service Center now only could get it but nobody else.
Also since years it is extremely bad that Korg does not even publish its SysEx headers written by the sequencer of the Pa-keyboards in SMFs, so that one has to analyze them painstakingly, to be able to use them in a practical way editing SMFs produced with Korgs Pa-Keyboards.
kind regards

I have the manuals for Oasys also. I also have them for Kurzweil, Yamaha and Roland. I was a authorized repair person for Roland. I've always repaired my own gear. The hardest thing to get is parts. Yamaha and Roland are the easiest to get parts for, at least in the past. Kurzweil and Korg are the hardest; at least in the USA. Since nothing is made in the US anymore, getting parts are much harder to get. One thing I can't understand, is not being able to get parts.
