61-key vs 76-key Pa4X
Hi everyone. My first post so please be patient. I am looking into purchasing a Pa4X here in the U.S. My question is why the popularity of the 61-key over the 76-key? Price doesn't seem to be an issue ($200 US$). Yet the wait is over 30-days for a 61-key vs immediate availability of the 76-key. Thanks in advance of any responses.

I think if not a money issue, they choosing 61 over 76 only because is more easy to care 61 when you play a lot live performances.
... or space in studio... just kidding
Nothing is better in 61, 76 has same + more keys and included hard drive.

I agree with Nemik.
I use a 76 key Kronos and it pains me to move it for show band gigs and rehearsals. I'm about to purchase the Pa4x and I'm looking at the 61 key model because I can take it to rehearsals and it will be lighter weight for cocktail hour and other solo gigs. The 61key Pa4x is 42lbs and the Kronos 76 key is 57 lbs.
I may take both on bigger gigs and that's a lot of bulk to carry around!

my own view is that the 76 key provides more in the way of freedom when playing, on the 61 you may well find your hitting the Octave up and down buttons a lot more. I dont see that the 61 key model posing much in the way of bulk versus the 61 and I could only try the 61 before purchase as there were no 76 models available, I quickly realised that I could never live with the 61 note model but hey ho you pays your money and takes your choice, My advise is to try both if you can before laying your pocket money out,

As Nemik mentioned, agree with him, the Pa4X 61 keys is lighter (30.64 lbs) and practical for its portability during live performance.Nemik wrote:I think if not a money issue, they choosing 61 over 76 only because is more easy to care 61 when you play a lot live performances.

Re: 61-key vs 76-key Pa4X
We are neighbors I live in Rhode Island. If you're going to buy the Pa4x there is a dealer in Milford Ct. Call Frank at Audioworks Ct. for a great deal. I've been a customer of his for years he is a great dealer and he knows arrangers very well. 203-876-1133.vw0400 wrote:Hi everyone. My first post so please be patient. Thought I'd chime in on the 76 v 61. You only start to notice the difference when you start to age. They are good boards but the 76 is cumbersome to carry around. I started using 61 keys 4 years ago.
And to another response, yes Frank in CT will give a great deal.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful answers. Going to go for the 76-key soon as they are available again. As far as the weight, your talking to someone who used a Rhodes 73-suitcase (still have in the attic) and DK Synergy - nothing can compare to lugging those 2 around - except maybe a Hammond B3 lol.

The 76 is the way to go, it's the lightest keyboard I have ever owned even in its full flightcase, I ain't complaining

61 or 76?
No Brainer: Its the 76 every time. However you need to worry if you buy a 76 note Tyros 5 cos its as long as a double decker bus and will NOT sit on your car's back seat.

You would need to look at how you use the keyboard. Once you consider those factors ,then you purchase the one that is right for you. I use mine as a sound module for the most part, so I could care less if it's 20 keys or 88! In fact if they had a sound module version available, I would've bought that instead.
There's no such a thing as the 76 keys is the way to go!
