Replace my Krome with an M3 Rack?
Arggh!
Someone stop me before I do something stupid. I am an ex-M50 owner, and up until today a relatively happy Krome 73 owner. Was just at my local music store, and they have a 2nd hand M3 rack module (Expanded with EXB 256 memory)
Boy, did I have fun playing it! All those M50 memories came back, and an hour passed quickly by. (And, after all is said about the newer pianos in the Krome, that M3 piano is really stunning for it's age!)
Is there a crazy reason why I should not consider trading in my Krome 73 toward this module? I feel like I'm going backwards... Please, if there is a glaring reason, I would love to think clearly about this.
...time to go play my Krome...

Thanks for the reply,
This rack unit does not have the Radias expansion, so adding that would raise its cost to be prohibitive. Even though the Krome has the wonderful pianos, the M3 really sounds good on it's own.
But you know, it's the ease of editing on the Krome screen that is the real winner for me. Granted, the M3 is probably something I could get used to (I did own an M50 for many years) but after using the Krome for a year now, it's a really nice board.
My issue is I would have to sell (or trade-in) the Krome towards the M3Rack, and it's just too nice of a package to lose. I would lose out on a physical keyboard too! I think I will let it sit for now, and keep my eye out for perhaps a more competitively priced M3...

M3 is a beast
I ran across one at a stupid price - M3-88 and considering selling it but now I am on the fence. Seriously thinking about keeping it.Bald Eagle wrote:Keep an eye out for an M3 with keys. The keybed is far superior to Krome's. Better feel and Aftertouch.

It's a pretty nice synthesizer!
What else to you own? Does it get used in your set-up, or did you buy it just because of the price?
If it gets used and you don't have anything else that plays like it, then keep it. If, on the other hand, you love your "Motif" or "Fantom", or whatever, and you don't use the M3, then sell if for other gear!
The M3 is a pretty old synth by today's standards, but it still sounds amazing in a lot of areas. I would have no problem using it as my main instrument. The areas I think it needs help on are Wurli's and Organs. The Rhodes instruments aren't great, but they have a charm all of their own...

the classic keys has some more piano's in there as well as the latest update had some great samples.
mix in some verb and delay. they sound real korg good.

Did that four months ago, sold my Krome 61
special edition and bought a used M3 73.
I hated the Krome keybed and wasn't impress
with the sounds.
One thing you have to be carefull with the M3
is the touchscreen, mine died 3 weeks after i bought the M3, but I bought it from a music
store and had a 90 days waranty. they replace
the screen everything is great now.
(It"s very expensive on ebay and you can do it yourself)
For the piano was not a issue I have a Yamaha
115b for piano sounds.
I love Karma!
I never looked back.
