Problem with a (non Korg) master keyboard

Post by michelkeijzers »

I have bought a master keyboard (MidiPlus Vega 88P, also called EagleTone Vega 88P in some countries).

When I connect it to the Kronos (either via USB MIDI or normal MIDI), occasionaly when I hold notes (by hands, not by pedal), all notes stop playing suddenly. Sometimes it does not happen for an hour, sometimes every 5 seconds (continuously), sometimes only when I play the Kronos.

My setup: Vega, MIDI out (or USB) to Kronos MIDI in, both MIDI channels or 1 (but same problem with MIDI channel of Kronos is 1 and Vega is 2).

Has anybody of you encountered a similar problem (either with a Vega or with another keyboard)? It seems a sort of "all notes off" MIDI message is sent.

Does it have a panic button? Perhaps the contact is dirty?
Have you tried googling for other people with the same issue with the Vega?

It does not have a panic button, so that cannot be the problem.
The problem is that almost no information can be found about it, except the specs, also I haven't found a forum specifically for the Vega.

Just to troubleshoot/isolate the midi problem, try to find another midi keyboard to determine if the lockup duplicates, or not

Hi Michel,

Try to record all MIDI events via a DAW during a test session until the problem occurs...
Vegas to DAW input, DAW output to Kronos.

Good Luck.

Yep, 3 possible causes...

1) midi keyboard
2) midi cable
3) Kronos

You need to isolate them..

1st use another midikeyboard connected to Kronos midi in
2nd connenct your master keyboard to another midisource
3rd change cables..

and see what happens..

I don't have a DAW, but probably I can find some MIDI analyzer.

I'm already knowing it is the midi keyboard, since I normally use my Triton Extreme as slave and works perfectly.

MIDI cable I also ruled out, I even don't get a difference with USB MIDI or normal MIDI. Also I used two different USB cables.

Kronos is also not the problem (since another keyboard, Triton Extreme) works fine.

So it's probably the settings of the MIDI keyboard OR the Korg.

MIDI-OX is a good free MIDI tool that may help.

I know MIDI-OX, I recommend this program to be used with PCG Tools in combination with synths that do not have USB sticks or SD/CF cards to transmit/receive PCG 'files'.
